DARK WHISPERS COMPANION: A Guide to the Characters in the Dark Whispers Universe

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK

BOSTON BRAND

Boston is known as Deadman. He was an aerialist who had a reputation for sleeping with married women and generally pissing the wrong people off. He was shot during his trapeze act and died before his body hit the ground. Upon his death, Boston's spirit was given the power to possess any living body to help him bring people to justice.

Contrary to popular belief, it was Boston, not Batman, who founded Justice League Dark. He's excessively talkative, snarky, and sometimes inappropriate, but he's very loyal to his friends. He is extremely fond of Zatanna and considers Constantine his boss and close friend. He has a crush on Orchid, the manifested form of the House of Mystery.

Boston is based entirely on his character in Justice League Dark.

JOHN CONSTANTINE

John is skilled in working with dark magic, demons, and the mystical arts. He's a snarky alcoholic with a lot of angst and a damned soul, but he tries to help the good guys when they need him. Zatanna was and always will be the love of his life. He is extremely close to their daughter, Emily, who he raised on his own.

John is based on his character in Justice League Dark, Constantine: City of Demons, and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.

RAVEN ROTH

Raven often struggles to find a balance between her human side and her demonic one. Her father, an evil demon named Trigon, remains trapped inside of her head, and is constantly trying to escape. When her emotions get the better of her, he sometimes succeeds briefly, but Raven always regains control in the end. Raven wants to be a force of Good. She is in love with Damian Wayne. She is an empath who can sense and affect the emotions of others. In addition to this, she has powerful sorcery.

Raven's character is based on a mix of her collective appearances. I mostly drew inspiration from the live action Teen Titans show and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.

BRUCE WAYNE

Bruce is best known as Batman. By day, he's a wealthy bachelor, by night, he's Gotham's biggest hero and the head of the Justice League. Stoic, strong, and serious, Bruce tries to keep everyone in line and focused. He raised Dick and is the father of Damian. Bobby and Dani consider him their grandfather.

Batman was inspired by all of his different versions and also has his own hidden history created specifically for this world that is very different from the one people might be familiar with. Expect the unexpected.

DAMIAN WAYNE

Damian is the wild and often unpredictable son of Bruce Wayne. Initially raised by the League of Assassins, Damian sometimes needs to be reminded what lines he shouldn't cross. Bobby and Dani view him as their uncle. He is in love with Raven, who is often his only off-switch. He is a good person who had a rough childhood, resulting in a bad temper and trust issues. He's very close to Dick and considers him his brother.

Damian was based on his character in Son of Batman and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.

ZATANNA ZATARA

Zatanna is a stage magician whose magic is real. Her power is enormous. She is in love with John Constantine, although their relationship often had bumps in the road. Fifteen years ago, she was forced to leave their daughter, Emily, with John to protect her. She vanished right after. No one knows what became of her, but John refuses to give up hope that he'll find her again one day.

Zatanna was inspired by a mix of her character in Justice League Dark (and all of the connecting films) and her character in Young Justice.
