Hudson's point of view:

Her demeanor changed quickly and without any warning. The second the word stop left her lips both Holden and I removed our hands. I gave him a confused look and his showed just as much confusion as I did. Before we offered her the position as head of digital marketing, we had a private investigator look into her, her family, financial history, past anything that could cause problems for the company and it came up clean there wasn't even anything linked to trauma mentioned, but the way she just reacted. She shut down in a matter of seconds. When I asked her what was wrong, she lied, making up some bull shit excuse but I know better than to believe a thing she is saying. I have had experience with watching what happens to someone who has experience high amounts of trauma and Mia just showed there is more to her story than was given to us in the file. Once we get back into the car, I pull out my phone and call up the private investigator.

"Good evening Mr. Adler is there anything I can do to help you?" He questions and Holden gives me a curious look his eyebrow raised.

"Yes can you please do some more digging for me on Mia? I feel like there was stuff missing." I reply.

"Of course I can but I don't know how much more I will find. Her record was pretty straight forward. Unless someone knew what they were doing I'm not sure I will be able to find anything."

"Okay thank you." I reply hanging up the phone.

"What are you thinking?" Holden asks.

"I'm thinking of Sarah, 2 years ago. After what happened to her she was never the same, and Mia exhibited some of those same traits tonight, how fast she said stop, it was almost like a painful memory surfaced, and she started to shut down. I need to know what happened to her." I say.

"We will get there brother we just have to be patient."

"I am not a patient man, never have been never will be. I go about things way differently than you."

"That I am well aware of but if she has been through something our private investigator will find it and if he doesn't maybe it wasn't reported or scrubbed off the file lots of people have that done so it doesn't affect their life. She is more closed off than most women we are into, but we have to wait, and she will come to us when she is ready."

"Do you think she will agree to the offer of being with both of us?" I question.

"Honestly I don't know. I feel a connection to her as do you. We just need to be patient, do things on her terms. If we push too hard it will end up like the last one, she wasn't ready."

"This is different, Holden and you know that." I say my jaw clenching.

"Regardless we need to be patient, don't rush okay?" he reasons.

"Yeah, yeah I won't rush." I agree

"Good now can we please stop by the club before we go home? I want to check on something." He asks.

"Yeah." I switch lanes making it so that I can turn in a few minutes.

When I get to that point I turn at the new club we opened a few months ago. The music can be heard as we park the car in the reserved parking spot for us. We get out and walk towards the front door, the rope instantly getting moved to the side. We walk back to the general managers office and knock on it. When we get a come in we walk in.

"Hi Tyler, I just wanted to stop by to grab those papers we talked about yesterday, Do you have it printed?" I ask.

"Hey Holden." Tyler says standing. "I have that right here actually." He says handing Holden the paperwork he wanted. "Do you need anything else."
