Today is the first Quidditch match of the season; weeks and weeks of training have lead up to this exact moment. I wake up early like Harry told me to and change into my Gryffindor Quidditch robes, which are coloured scarlet and yellow.
Since Harry and I both have the last name Potter, and our names both start with an H, we got 'Potter 1' and 'Potter 2' on the back of our uniforms. And sadly because my brother is older than me by one minute, I'm Potter 2.
I tie my hair into a braid (Because, it's too messy) and walk down to the Great Hall with Mione, Harry and the others. We sit at the Gryffindor table and Hermione and Ron dig into their breakfast, so did I. But Harry pushed it away.
"I've suddenly lost my appetite due to my nerves." Harry says. "Take a bit of toast, go on," I tell him. "Haylee is right. You'll need your strength today." Hermione agrees.
"I'm not hungry." He says, as Snape comes up behind us. "Good luck today, Miss Potter. And your brother. Then again, now that you've proven yourselves against a troll. A little game of Quidditch should be easy work." He says broodingly. "Even if it is against Slytherin." He then - much to my surprise - limps away from us. "That explains the blood." Harry murmurs.
"Blood?" I ask. "Listen, last night, I'm guessing Snape let the troll in as a diversion so he could get past that dog. But, he got bit, that's why he's limping." Harry explains to us. "But why would anyone go near that dog?" Hermione questions. "The day Haylee and I were at Gringotts, Hagrid took something out of one of the vaults," Harry says.
"He said it was Hogwarts business, very secret," I say, picking up on Harry's idea. "You're saying-" "That's what the dog's guarding. That's what Snape wants." Harry tells us, as a begin to hear an owl hooting.
We all look to I see Hedwig flying towards us, with two, long parcels. She drops the straight I to our hands and we lay them out on the table. "Bit early for mail, isn't it?" Hermione muses. "But Harry and I never get mail," I mutter.
"Let's open them," Ron says and we all begin tearing into the two packages. Finally, we remove the last of the brown paper wrapping, revealing two sleek brooms. "Broomsticks," I whisper as I run my hand down the broom closest to me." They're not just any broomsticks, they're both the latest cleansweap!" Ron exclaims. "But who-?" I begin, trying to search the hall for Hedwig. I finally find her with McGonagall, who is stroking her fondly, McGonagall smiles at Harry and I and we nod gratefully.
Soon after our broomsticks arrived, Harry, the entire team and I head down to the Quidditch field. We assemble in the changing rooms and my stomach does flips."Scared, Potters?" Oliver asks us. "A little, not much." I say"It's alright. I felt the same way before my first game." He says. "What happened?""I don't really remember," Oliver replies bluntly. "I took a Bludger to the head two minutes in. Woke up I hospital a week later." "That's brilliant, Oliver, thanks for that reassurance," I mutter, fidgeting anxiously with the end of my braid. "You'll be great, Haylee, don't worry." Angelina Johnson - chaser and third year - whispers to me.
With that, the doors open and we all mount our brooms and fly into the field."Hello, and welcome to Hogwarts' first Quidditch match of the season!" Lee Jordan, the commentator says to the crowd. "Today's game, Slytherin versus Gryffindor!"
After a few minutes, we all take our positions. Angelina and Katie are on either side of Harry and Fred and George are close behind us.
"The players take their positions as Madam Hooch steps onto the field to begin the game!" "Now, I want a nice, clean game from all of you!" Madam Hooch says sternly before releasing the two black Bludgers and the Golden Snitch. "The Bludgers are up, followed by the Golden Snitch! Remember the Snitch is worth 150 points. The Seeker who catches the Snitch ends the game."
Madam Hooch the picks up the Quaffle and I grip my broom tighter. So it begins. She throws it up and we all make a move to snatch the Quaffle from the air. I hear Lee say something about the game beginning, but I'm no paying attention to his banter.
Harry somehow manage to take possession of the Quaffle and he start zooming towards the rings, dodging the Slytherin's relentless attacks. "Harry Potter of Gryffindor in possession!" He get closer and closer to the rings and Katie helps hurl it through the highest one. The Slytherin Keeper fails to block it and we earn Gryffindor ten points.
"Harry Potter scores! Ten points for Gryffindors!" Lee shouts as George high fives me. The game continues and Slytherin takes possession. "Bletchley passes to Captain Marcus Flint!" Flint dodges Katie and me effortlessly and kicks Angelina away when she tries to snatch the Quaffle. He tried to score but Wood blocks it swiftly.
Katie then takes possession on the Quaffle and I fly to the right of her, ready to help if needed. Making our way up the field by passing it backwards and forewords to each other, Katie finally manages to score us another ten points.
"Another ten points to Gryffindor!" Oliver blocks another attempted score and I notice Flint taking the bat off one of his Beaters. "Wood look out!" I yell as Flint aims a Bludger towards our captain. It hit Oliver and he falls to the ground, making the crowd boo. With no Keeper, the Slytherins manage a few goals and they even manage to knock out Angelina.
It is soon twenty all... and we can't seem to stop the Slytherins. Better catch the snitch soon...
Finally, Harry manage to take possession of the Quaffle, but almost as soon as I dodge the rough, scarlet ball, my broom begins jolting backwards and forwards. The Quaffle flies from my hands and I curse loudly as my broom continues jolting. I notice that Harry's is doing the exact same. That's odd...
With one strong jolt, I slip from my broom, only holding on with one hand. I just manage to pull myself back onto my broom, which is now working perfectly. I rejoin the game and aid Katie in trying to get another point for us.
After a while, I hear the crowd begin to gasp. I can see the snitch, it was in front of me, I lean forward making the new cleansweap go faster. Just as I grab the snitch, a bulger cam shooting towards me. "Oof," It hit me straight on the arm, and my safety gloves fell off. "She's got the Snitch! Haylee Potter receives 150 points for catching the Snitch!" "Gryffindor wins!"
Everybody begins cheering and Katie, the Weasley Twins and I all wrap our arms around each other in pure happiness, cheering and yelling.
We actually won our first ever game of Quidditch.
"My hand hurts" I groan.
