Forbidden Forest

"Why couldn't you have just kept your mouth shut y/n?" Draco snarls.

We're all alone, walking into the forbidden forest together. Only the flicker of our lantern to light the path ahead. It's autumn, and the leaves make no hesitation to crumble under our shoes, as we tread carefully.

"Me?!" I gasp. "You were the one that started this whole thing when you decided to howl like a werewolf in the middle of class. Therefore, landing us in detention" I shoot him a glare but he doesn't seem to notice.

"It was funny. You know it was. Everyone laughed except you, even though you wanted to" he replied, his self-righteous attitude seeping into his words.

"I didn't!" I snap back.

"I don't know who you're lying to" he scoffs.

"I'm not lying Malfoy. You just don't seem to understand that your actions have consequences".

He stops beside me, but when I turn to look at him, his eyes are already on me. It's so dark, I can't make out his features well enough to decipher whether he's about to explode on me like he usually does, or if he's trying to cover the fact he doesn't want to walk any deeper into the forest.

"What?" I ask, but he doesn't reply. He resumes his step, and we continue into the sea of trees and fog.

"Want to play a game?" he asks, mischief rich in his voice.

"Like what?" I reply, feeling my heart race a little faster than it had been.

"Truth or dare" he says.

"What are you, a first year?" I laugh, gripping the handle of the light tighter.

"Fine. Truth or strip - if you can't tell the truth, then you have to remove an item of clothing" he says, and I can tell that he's smirking without even having to look his direction.

I open my mouth to protest, but shut it just as quickly. What Malfoy doesn't realise is that this will be more fun for me, than he for him. And knowing him, he thinks that this will result in me telling him things that will humiliate me because I don't want to undress in front of him. What he doesn't know is, I am a deceptively good liar, and having to wear extra layers for the cold, is an upper hand - I won't even have to strip.

"Fine. Let's play" I finally reply, trying to make it sound like I really don't want to do this.

"I'll go first - Did you want to laugh at my werewolf impression earlier?" he asks.

"Yes"

"Knew it-"

"-but I wanted to laugh at you" I smirk, watching his face twitch with annoyance. It wasn't necessarily a lie, but I loved watching him squirm at my response. "My turn".

"Smart-ass" he grunts, waiting for my question.

"Did your father hear about you being turned into a ferret in fourth year?"

The seconds following my question are deadly quiet, I can almost hear his brain working overtime to come up with a witty reply, but... nothing. His hands travel up to his neck, and begin to untangle his scarf until he drops it to the floor. We stand there, both staring at the green and silver scarf crumpled by our feet.

Something turns in my stomach. "Your turn" I say.

"Have you ever skipped class?" He asks. I can tell he thinks that asking the good girl (aside from Hermione) if they skip class is going to leak all of my guilty secrets.

"Yes, I have" I answer proudly, and without hesitation. Although it is a complete lie - I have never. "Okay, my turn to-"

"You're lying" he says under his breath. He takes a steady step towards me, and looks me dead in the eyes. "Why are you lying to me y/n?"
