The Infamous Protector

The quiet flipping of pages, the typing of keyboards, and hushed voices. This was it – your ultimate happy place. For all the years you had been attending this university, you had always been part of the library staff and it always calmed the chaos that seemed to ensue past these walls.

You were in your senior year and had finally worked your way up to being one of the keyholders. To be trusted with the place you treasured working in, it meant a lot. You were always seen as one of the more straight-laced students. You maintained your grades for your scholarships, never got into trouble with the professors, and your usual crowd was pretty mellow.

That calm was something you needed in your life, especially with the... reputation, you had earned yourself over the years. With so many students on campus, there are bound to be some secondary-gender issues that arose - especially amongst the freshmen. They could never shake that dumb high school attitude off the first year, and you were typically one to keep to yourself.... Unless it involved the rut-brained Alphas trying to torment Betas and Omegas.

So, after you had managed to step into enough fights – you became known as a sort of safehouse. Whether it was you working in the library or walking around campus – the ground you walked on became neutral territory. Everyone came to know the rumor of the friendly neighborhood Beta Librarian.

Of course, that wasn't actually the case. You were in fact an Alpha – you've just always kept tight lips on your secondary-gender to avoid the hassle that came with it. Why should it matter what anyone is labelled as, it's just different pheromones. Plus, it made it a lot easier to become a de facto Protector of the Weak when you didn't have the stigma of an Alpha looming behind you.

That was how your days at university went. Calm for the most part and stepping in to stop problems. You enjoyed the routine you had created and were ready for your final year to finish out.

That was, until he showed up.
