Karrueche
__________"How's this?" I lift a soft sheer pink dress incrusted with diamonds off of the rack. The florescent lights hit the expensive jewels, shooting rainbow coloured rays across the room. This was the one.
Rico grabbed the dress from my hold before placing it across the model's chest. He eyed the material for a few seconds before nodding his head excitedly.
"Yes, yes! Definitely the one. Perfect, this will look amazing on you Julie." Rico beamed happily. He shooed off the blonde towards the dressing room before facing towards me.
"You have an artistic eye, K." Rico smirked. "Honestly, I have never met someone who can easily grab pieces of clothing and string them together perfectly yet so quickly."
I tried to hold in my blush. "T-thank you. That means a lot."
Rico nodded before glancing down at his phone. He frowned slightly before looking back up at me. "I have an important call to make, please take the rest of the day off. I'll see you tomorrow morning." He stalked off before I could even say goodbye. I shrugged not bothered by it and left to go collect my purse and jacket before heading out.
I reached my car, a black Honda, and got in quickly. So far, this week couldn't have gone any better. I was hired on the spot by none other then Rico Ricotta, one of the best fashion stylists that I know and worked as his assistant. This was the second time he was impressed with my work and I couldn't be anymore excited for what was yet to come. Dropping college might have been the best decision that I could have made. If this was two months ago I would have laughed if someone told me that I would be living in LA, with a great place to stay, have my own car and working my dream job.
I turned the radio on as I drove my way home. I still wasn't used to the new streets to I kept the GPS on as I followed the route to my apartment. I couldn't help but dance around in the car seat as single ladies by Beyonce played.
"All the single ladies, all the..." I stopped singing when my phone went off. I kept my eyes on the road as I used my free hand to find my phone in my purse. I felt my fingers brush the sleek metal before pulling it out. I checked the caller I.D before answering.
"Hey Mia." I say happily into the phone.
"Hey Karrueche, where you at?" Mia asked me.
"Driving home. Rico let me have the rest of the day off." I reply. I press on the brakes when I reached a red light.
"Good, we're going out." She said, sounding satisfied.
"Uh, where?" I said a bit unsurely. Mia, my roommate, had a bad habit of making decisions without my consent.
"Clubbing! Your twenty two and you barely go out!" She replied. I couldn't help but roll my eyes. It isn't my fault I preferred staying at home then going out. Besides, I only been here for a month. Not much time to make a lot of friends. So far, all I knew was Mia and several other stylists at the studio.
"I don't really feel like going out." I say on the phone.
"I'm not taking no as an answer girl, we're going out. A friend of mine will pick us up around eight." She hung up before I could even reply.
I drove the rest of the way home, dancing and singing to myself. There goes my Netflix and pizza, I thought glumly.

"Hey! I'm home!" I shout, when I enter the apartment.
"Over here!" I hear Mia yell from across the small building. The apartment was nice. With two bedrooms, medium sized living room and mini kitchen with an awesome sun room, this place was perfect for two young girls living in LA. I made a good amount of money working for Rico, so I was able to pay half the rent as Mia paid for the other half.
I found her a few seconds later in her room. She sat cross legged on the floor in front of what seemed like hundreds of different coloured dresses and outfits sprawled out on the floor. Her black curly hair fell over her shoulders in wet strands as she rummaged through her endless amounts of clothing.
"I need something to wear tonight." She answered my thoughts. She looked up, giving me a warm smile. "Can I borrow your blue maxi? It's really cute." She asks sweetly.
I shrugged. "Sure, but only if you let me choose an outfit from your closet."
She stood up, adjusting her towel over her chest. "Deal." She laughed.
For the next few hours, I relaxed before getting ready. I took a hot shower and straightened my hair before borrowing Mia's shimmery black dress that I grew fond of. It surprisingly fit me and looked even better when I applied my makeup and wore matching black heels. I brought my silver clutch with me and my phone before stepping out of my room. I found Mia applying lip stick in front of the mirror in the living room.
"Ready?" I asked her as I checked the time on the phone. Her friend should be here in a few minutes.
"Almost." She murmured under her lipstick. She backed up, puckering her lips and pressing a thin tissue over it before spinning around. "Okay, now I'm ready "
A sharp knock on the door caught both of our attention. Mia gasped quietly, her cheeks turning a slight pink. "That's him." She whispered.
I gave her a look. "Him?" I thought it would have been a girl that was picking us up. Not that it was strange for a guy to.
She nodded, her green eyes wide. Why did she look so nervous? She didn't move from her spot but instead turned towards the mirror and patted her hair and checked her makeup. As she was busy I decided to open the door myself.
A tall dark skinned boy with large muscles and a clean cut looked down at me. He wore a buttoned up blue top and dark jeans. His brown eyes seemed friendly despite his scary appearance. He shot me a large smile. "Hey, I'm Kyle."
"I'm Karrueche, Mia's roommate." I inform him, smiling back. I couldn't help but notice that he was extremely handsome.
"She didn't tell me that she had such a beautiful friend." He cocked his head, his grin charming. I didn't know what to say at first, I definitely wasn't expecting such a compliment from a stranger.
"Oh, um...thanks." I replied quietly. We both stayed quiet and the air between us grew awkward. I turned around, my eyes searching for my friend. She was no where to be seen. Where the hell was she? She didn't just leave me with a total stranger, did she?
"Mia?!" I called out. No reply.
"I'll be waiting in the car." Kyle told me before walking away. I walked back inside the living room before calling her name again. She then replied.
"Coming!"
I crossed my arms over my chest and waited for her to appear. She came from the washroom with a guilty expression on her face. "Sorry." She muttered. She looked past me before her eyes widened.
"Did he leave? Oh god I'm so stupid, he must think I'm such a loser..."
I smirked, suddenly realizing the reason behind her unusual behaviour. She stopped talking when she noticed my smile.
"What?" She nervously asked.
"You got the hots for him don't you?" I ask, already knowing the answer. She blushed before looking away, confirming my thoughts.
"Just...please don't tell him." She gave me a desperate look making me kind of wanting to hit her head for thinking I would do that to begin with.
"Of course I won't." I reply before taking a step towards her. I swung my arm over her shoulder before leading her towards the door. "Let's just have a fun time, alright?"
She smiled gratefully before nodding her head. I could tell that it meant a lot to her that I kept her secret between us.
