She looked at me today. And when she did, she unknowingly set off a flurry of butterflies in my stomach.
It was during lunch, and I was talking to my best friend — Bennett. He was telling me about his sister’s new boyfriend, I’d met him, obviously, as she couldn’t date without Ben or I’s approval.
And I glanced over at her table, like I did all the time, and I was about to look away but I saw her laughing and decided not to. Her friends were making funny faces and her best friend, Declan, was tickling her. I wasn’t jealous of Decco, not one bit. Because, even if I didn’t get a chance with Taylor, then at least he did and he was just as nice as her.
She was still laughing when our gazes locked, and she gave me a quick smile, which successfully managed to set off an army of dragons in my stomach.
It seemed to go in slow motion, and once she looked away, great rushed to my cheeks and I hung my head. Ben had somehow seen the little exchange and teased me to no end the whole day until we went to his house after school for dinner and his Mom told him to stop.
Ben had called me whipped, and I was. But she wasn’t even my girlfriend, so I shouldn’t feel this way.
