Lexi POV

It didn't seem easy for me and Cassie to just move out out of the house that we grew up in. As for me? I was glad at the same time. I left my friends behind without saying goodbye, after rue's father funeral. It was a moment that we all came together and had the group back together. The beginning of sophomore year, we just drifted apart after I moved. Out of everyone, Rue was the only person who I stayed connected with.
She stopped smoking and doing all other kinds of drugs but coming back, she didn't seem to quit. Depression took over everything of her and she just became a different person. The death of her father affected too much for her. I know he's was the only person that she was close with.

"Girls look, we're here." My mom pointed at the house that we're moving back into. Same neighborhood road, the house was still standing there; surprisingly. It was all deja vu; nothing has changed. The workers who helped us move our stuff got out of their truck and set up their equipment to bring down our furnitures and everything.

I walked into the house and memories just starts to flood in my mind. Standing on the staircase was the last time I saw dad leave. There's no turning back I guess. "You okay sweetie?" Mom asked as she stood beside me with her arms wrapped behind me.

Slowly my head nods. "Just taking it in." I said trying to forget all of those arguments I've heard in the middle of the night.

She comfortably rubs both of my arms. "Think of it as a restart we are pressing towards to. Besides." I turned facing her as she tucked my hair behind my ear. "It's New Year's Eve, your sister Cassie got invited to some party God knows what it is. I don't trust not one bit of your sister so tonight, you're going with her."

Cassie automatically ran downstairs and heard our conversation. "Mom you can't be that serious! I planned on going alone, not taking my older sister and watch me as if I was some fucking baby." She complained.

"Watch that tone young lady!" Mom angrily said.

She threw her hands up and groaned annoyed while heading back upstairs. "It's not fair!"

Mom halfway stood up on the stairs to yell back. "Life is not fair, consider your self that you got an older sister and a mom who fucking cares about you!" She yelled.

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, what a restart way we are doing." Sarcastically I said.

"Honey come on, I'm serious." Mom said expecting me to go to this New Years party. Normally I don't go to these parties but I guess there isn't much of a choice for me.

"Fine I'll go." I said to mom and headed upstairs to get myself ready. The door was halfway opened and Cassie was there sitting in her bed, looking at pictures of us four.

"He's not coming back.." she said. I looked away and stared out the window. "Did he just pretended to love us? and mom?" Sadly she said.

"No, he left; plain and simple. Don't expect him to come back for this family, he just didn't know how to love." I said upset and sat on my bed.

"You don't know anything!" She cried and headed to the bathroom, slamming the door. Cassie was close with dad, he was the only one that could make her feel happy. I could be close with Cassie but she makes it difficult for us sometimes. It's sad but what can I do.

I walked up to the bathroom. "Cassie?" Quietly I called her name as I knocked softly. "I didn't mean to lash out.. I'm sorry."

She suddenly opened the door. "Why do you get upset with me when I mention about dad? You know he loved you too."
