To whomever it may concern:i am deeply sorry I truly though this chapter had saved, turns out I had saved the wrong version, I am replacing this chapter with hopes that it won't delete.
I had run for two days, my body pushing me to travel further. I had finally reached a port after pacing for six hours my body knew where it needed to go. My disheveled appearance made me look like a lunatic and I was quite glad mothers had pulled their children away. My peculiarity was on hyperactive mode and I had no control over my body. I had no control over what pain I could've caused.
I tried to focus on where my body was heading but I could only watch as I dragged myself through a muddy swamp. I crossed the path and began to head up a hill, the leaves crunching under my toes as the soles of my feet stepped over everything in our path. I entered a small cave and quietly gasped as my body felt the suction of entering another loop. I stumbled out of the hole. Only seeing the blurred image of rocks as the sticks cut into my skin.
As a house came into sight I sped up finally reaching the door I pounded three times, before my peculiarity released me. It's choking hold finally lose from my head I swayed a bit, feeing very lightheaded. I held back bile wondering who would open the door.
Almost as if my thoughts were read a woman in a navy blue outfit swung the door open. "Ahh Mrs Falcon I see you decided to come." She spoke before looking up, when she did she gasped. I realized how I must've looked, coming to her house at this time of night, covered in blood and caked in dirt. My hair sitting like a mop on my head wile my eyes stared dazed upon her. "Oh my bird. Come with me child." She ushered me inside and looked around at the scenery before closing the door.
She mumbled something incoherent before pulling me close, embracing me into a hug. I tensed immediately, I didn't know her and my sleeves were torn in places, something I should've been more careful about preventing. I hated physical contact. "I'm so very grateful you were able to make it here safely." She pulled me away and sat me on the couch. "What's your name, if you don't mind me asking."
I paused for a minute, my hearing aids that were once concealed were dead. A beep let me know that I needed to change the battery and fast. "My name is Thea." I whispered, my throat sore from the lack of water.
"You look tried and hungry dear. What do you enjoy eating, we have carrot and salad, there are fruits in the basket." She said picking my hands up and leading me to a kitchen. She pulled a chair out for me and began to cut up some vegetables. "You never told me your full name, and again if you don't mind telling me what your peculiarity is. Just so I know if you need anything important."
"I need this, but the batteries dead. I have more in my pocket. My full names Thea Black." I gently pushed the hearing aid across the table towards her as her thoughts rang in my head. 'She's not very talkative, but that's quite alright.' And then again, more and more making my head ring like an alarm. 'I wonder what these are for' 'this device seems different' 'she seems around fifteen'
Her questions and thoughts chimed one by one in my head. The pressure built up and I could feel a migraine building. I winced and yanked out the extra materials from my pocket. I couldn't stand the pain, the thoughts crowded my head, even being around one person made me claustrophobic and anxious. I saw her look at me from the corner of her eye, her thoughts asking me questions she wouldn't dare speak. "I can hear you." I mumbled, but knew she could hear. Her face morphed into one of interest before flashing me a smile that tried to mask her intrigued shock.
She passed me the bowl, and I knew the second she opened her mouth a lecture was to spill. "I have an extra room upstairs. First, before all things I need you to eat and then we need to tend to whatever wounds you may have. I also need to speak on the matter of how you came to be here. What happened that led you here is something I fear may have followed." She spoke slowly as if talking to a toddler. Then she motioned for me to eat. "Please eat, and when you feel done-"
I cut her off by pushing the bowl towards her. I had only had three bites but was nauseous. The food wouldn't settle in my stomach, flashes from a couple days ago flashed through my brain. "I'm done. I'm not ready to talk about what occurred yet. Can we discuss it tomorrow after I am able to rest?" Her thoughts still flared, and I wasn't ready for the next thing that came to mind. 'I know her, don't I?' My body shook slightly, remembering her suddenly. She did know me.
I wasn't ready to tell her the truth so I yanked my hearing aids off the table, and slid the pieces together. I pushed the last part in place and then placed the top part of the plastic around my ear and ropes the rest into the center. I sighed in relief as her thoughts stopped. My relaxation was short lived as she nodded. "Of course, you may also meet the children tomorrow." I silently pleaded to not meet everyone. I didn't need any connections. Rose was my only exception at my last home. Even she knew I had personal reasons we didn't talk on. She spoke again pulling me out of my thoughts. "Do you wish to follow me and see your room? First of course you will need to bathe, but after I can show you your bed."
"Yes please." I was exhausted, and beyond mentally drained. We walked up the stairs, each step creaking. I followed her to a bathroom. It was older, but I was used to that. My last loop was in the late 1800's and everything was aged. I glanced back at her, she now held a nightgown in her arms. It was a light cream and was long sleeved. Good, physical contact brought me pain, it hurt me. Cloth protected me from what the hearing aids couldn't. I carefully took the clothes from her and looked up for instructions.
She gave me a smile and simply said, "please feel free to use any soap or things you may find, I have a toothbrush and a comb for you. After you are done you can come out and I'll show you your room." I nodded in response and offered a thank you. To which she just waved her hand and said, "you are a part of this family, you will always be welcome." I gently closed the door to the bathroom and placed my nightgown and supplies on the floor. I turned on the water for the tub and let it fill. Drip drip drip. The water trickled into the tub, and I was left alone with my thoughts. I stripped my clothes and sunk into the tub my head was pounding and yet was silent. I closed my eyes and let only a few tears loose, one for Rose, one for my last family and one for myself. I scrubbed the soap through my hair, taking a bar in my hands. I choked back a sob as I saw blood coating my nails, Roses blood. I scratched and tore at my skin trying so hard to wipe away what had happened.
After a few minutes I stood in front of the mirror and looked over my frail frame. I wasn't very tall but that was okay. My long tangled black hair covered my back. My face was stoic and paler than any I've ever seen. My eyes that once looked back with child-like joy were mournful. This wasn't the first time I had lost a family, but it still hurt. I yanked the comb through my hair eventually looking somewhat presentable. I slid my outfit on, brushed my teeth and stepped outside the door, holding my old clothes to my chest.
I was met with a smiling ymbryne, and a blanket. She pushed the blanket towards me and motioned for me to follow her. By now my head was ringing, and I was ready to sleep. She led me to a smaller room. From the first glance I knew I loved it. The walls were painted dark grey. A small lamp sat near a window seat, which overlooked the ocean. The bed was also grey, and covered with blankets and pillows. My favorite part however was the large bookshelf that covered the left wall. I spun around and nearly hugged her, but instead offered her a huge smile, my eyes brimmed with tears, this was one of the nicest room I had ever seen. "Thank you so much." I whispered.
She smiled before answering "of course dear I am sorry the room wasn't fully prepared but I hope you will settle in. I will see you in the morning. Enjoy your rest." With that she closed the door.
Taking the gloves from my pockets on my old outfit I laid them down on the dresser. I placed my now folded clothes near my gloves on the other side of the dresser. I rubbed my fingers over the necklace that hung around my collarbone feeling the metals cool and smooth surface made me sleepy. The bed called my name as I laid under the covers and let that sweet darkness carry me off to sleep. My brain to tired to even think of nightmares.
