Ginny

December 15th, 1996

I was really nervous about talking to someone about going to Professor Slughorn's Christmas party with me. That someone was a close friend of mine, Luna Lovegood, who was... odd, to put it nicely. A lot of the other students here at Hogwarts have nicknamed her "Loony" because of her strange fascinations and fashion choices. The thing with me is that those little quirks of her personality make me like her even more. I happened to be walking down a corridor when I noticed Luna walking towards me. "Hey Luna, can I talk to you in private for a moment?" I asked her. "Of course you can, Ginny," she replied in her usual dreamy voice. We entered an empty classroom nearby that, according to Luna, she had stumbled upon by accident in our first year. "So, what did you want to talk about?" She asked me. "Well, I was wondering... would you like to go to Professor Slughorn's Christmas party with me?" I asked nervously. "I was wondering when you were going to ask me that. Yes, I'll go with you," she replied, leaving me sort of stunned. "I wasn't sure if you'd want to go with me," I replied. "Ginny, I'd go to anything with you. You're my best friend," she said warmly, and we went to our next class together.

Later that day in my dormitory, I found one of my other best friends, Hermione Granger, sitting on her bed waiting for me. "Hey Gin. How'd it go with Luna?" She asked. "It went pretty well, 'Mione. She agreed to go with me to the Christmas party, and she said she'd been wondering when I was going to ask her. Do you think... maybe she has feelings for me like I do for her?" I asked. "It's definitely a possibility," Hermione replied. "I don't know if I should tell her how I feel about her. What if she hates me?" I asked. "Gin, relax. You're overthinking this. All you can do is tell her how you feel and see what happens from there," she said. "Yeah, you're right. I think I'll tell her on the way to Slughorn's Christmas party," I said. "Good idea. Hope it goes well!" She replied encouragingly.

The day of the Christmas party, I decided to wear a festive red and gold dress that I had received from someone mysteriously for Christmas last year. I met up with Luna after dinner to head to the party. "Can I tell you something on the way?" I asked her. "Sure you can, Ginny," she said. About halfway to the party, I pulled her into an empty classroom. "Why are we in here?" She asked. "Because, I don't want to be overheard," I answered. "Oh," she said. "See, what I wanted to tell you is that... that I'm in love with you," I said nervously. "I, um... I love you too, Ginny," she said, and my eyes went wide. "Wait, really?" I asked. "Yes, really," she said. "Oh, thank Merlin! I was so scared you were gonna hate me if I told you," I said. "Ginny, I could never be mad at you, and I certainly could never hate you," she replied. "Thanks, Luna," I said. "No problem," she replied. "So, um... do you want to be my girlfriend?" I asked nervously. "Of course," Luna replied, smiling brightly at me. I moved my hands to her waist, and she put her arms around my neck and pulled herself closer. "I love you, Luna Lovegood," I said. "I love you too, Ginevra Weasley," Luna replied softly, pulling herself even closer to me. I closed the remaining distance between us and kissed her. Luna gently pulled me over to a wall until she had her back pressed up against it.

I moved my hands to Luna's hair as we paused to catch our breath. "That was amazing," she said. "I couldn't agree more," I said. "Want to do it again?" She asked me, and I pressed my lips to hers again. She moved her hands to my waist and gently pulled me up against her, while I slowly ran my hands through her dirty blonde hair, never wanting the moment to end. "Oh... my... goodness... I... I could get used to that," Luna said breathlessly when we separated again. "So could I, sweetie. So could I," I replied just as breathlessly. "We should get going, or we're going to be late for the party," Luna said. "Yeah, c'mon," I replied.

"Ah! Ginny, you scared me! You're awfully early," Professor Slughorn said when we arrived. "Really? We thought we were going to be late!" I replied. "Yes, well, please, feel free to hang around for a while!" Slughorn said. "Okay, thanks Professor," I said. "Oh, and who might this charming young lady be?" Slughorn asked, gesturing to Luna. "Oh, this is Luna Lovegood. My girlfriend," I replied. "Ah! I knew your parents when they went to Hogwarts. When I heard about your mother's death, it hurt my heart. She was one of my favorites, you know. Very bold with her experiments, I must say," he said. "Thanks Professor. I miss her dearly," Luna said. "Yes, yes. Very sad. But it's Christmas! A time to be happy!" Slughorn said. "Yes. With Ginny, I feel happy," Luna said, and I couldn't help but blush. "That's excellent!" Slughorn replied, busying himself with setting up the party, while Luna and I sat on the couch together. I started gently rubbing her left leg, which made her shiver slightly. "Sorry," I said, removing my hand from her leg, thinking that I had given her a chill from the contact. "No, don't be sorry. I actually quite like it," Luna replied, taking my hand and moving it back to her leg.
