A week has passed since Peter found their Dahlia or, as she was known to everyone else, Katie. Peter came by everyday to check to see if she had awakened even though several of the doctors promised they'd let him know if she were to gain consciousness and that he didn't actually have to stay.
He wanted to be there for her when she woke up. Peter also wanted to be there in case she would begin to come to her other senses before actually being able to open her eyes. Her injuries have healed decently and there had been no major damage, surprisingly enough. Tony and Natasha also came to see her the most often out of the rest of the team. Of course, the others came, but not as much as those three.
While he would sit by her bed, Peter took to reading his assigned reading to her. He didn't care if she couldn't hear him, he was doing it solely because there was a small chance she could.
All of the doctors, of course, found it adorable. Every time he'd walk in the nurses and doctors would watch him in complete adoration. He reminded them of a little puppy.
A doctor, by the name of Jodie Siegn, came to check on Dahlia when Peter was in the middle of his chapter. Upon hearing her enter, Peter smiled warmly at her before returning back to the page.
As Peter flipped the page, Dr. Siegn mentioned, "have you tried the other senses?"
Looking up at the woman, busy with something he didn't know the purpose for, Peter's brows furrow. "What do you mean?"
"Sometimes it can be helpful if you hold the patient's hand or something. Smells can also help; do you know of any that might get a reaction out of her?"
"Oh," Peter pauses before sheepishly admitting, "I don't really know her that well."
The doctor nods her head in understanding, silently reeling with how adorable he was when he said that.
A few days later, yet again (as he did every day), Peter entered the hospital hoping that she'd wake.
He had taken the doctor's advice about trying to appeal to her other senses. The day he heard about it, in fact, he had gone to get the opinions of the team.
He gathered that he should probably just avoid trying to appeal to her sense of smell, in fear that it may trigger some bad memories, and if he were to use touch to only lightly hold her hand in a way that she could escape easily from his grasp so she didn't feel as though she was trapped.
He took extra caution with that advice and greatly thanked Natasha, Bucky, and Bruce for supplying it. Peter would hate himself if he caused her extra stress. He only wanted for her to feel as comfortable as possible in the state she was in.
Taking out his book, which he was almost done with, he gently slid his hand under hers so that it was lying palm up.
<Katie's POV>
The voice.
It sounds like a man's—no, a boy's voice. But it isn't a bad voice. It doesn't make my heart race with fear like so many others did.
Weird
I can't exactly place the voice, but I know that the somewhat familiar voice had never hurt me. It's that, that made me relax, albeit very little.
His voice is pretty soothing, though, whoever he is. I also noticed he is holding(?) my hand. He's not really holding it; it's more like he's just touching it. I appreciate that he isn't holding me tighter because, although the voice—to my recollection—has never harmed me, it doesn't mean that he won't.
Oh god...
Where's my uncle right now? I'm sure he's pissed off. I'm in a hospital, after all. Oh, I really hope that I'll have a different doctor than the one Danny has been making me see.
