Conner walked into the living room, his stomach twisting and turning. His suit wasn't as uncomfortable as he thought it would be - thank goodness. It was a deep forest green that he had picked out for this year's prom theme - fairytale woodland. The idea had been his and Bree's, and they were overjoyed when their classmates had chosen the idea in a vote.
At the sound of his footsteps, his parents turned towards him. His mom instantly welled up with tears, and Bob gave him a small round of applause. Conner rolled his eyes affectionately at their reactions, and gave a tiny bow.
"Honey, you look so handsome!" Charlotte exclaimed. "Wait, Bob, where's the camera?!"
Bob, who had been prepared for his wife's fragile emotional state, grabbed the camera from the coffee table, where he had strategically placed it.
"Thank you. Okay, now I have to get a few pictures!"
"Do we really have to do this?" Conner pleaded. "It's just prom, you've known this was coming. It's so cheesy!"
"Conner Jonathan Bailey, I can count on one hand the amount of normal milestones I have witnessed as a parent. You will put up with my cheesiness and take as many pictures as needed." Charlotte spoke in a tone Conner knew better than to argue with, so he shook his head fondly and put on his best photo smile.
"I can't believe you're graduating!" Charlotte said as she began clicking away. "I never thought we'd be here," she muttered to Bob, but not quietly enough to go unnoticed by Conner.
"Hey," he exclaimed, "I'm right here!"
"Oh sorry honey, I didn't mean it like that," his mother assured him. "I just mean, well, it's so rare that I get to see you have these experiences, I never know which ones we're gonna get, and which ones we'll miss."
"It's prom," Conner argued. "Why wouldn't I have prom?"
"I hate to say it, but I think your mom is in the right here," Bob piped up. "I mean, considering that your sister dropped out before high school."
Conner simply stared at him. A few moments later, they were interrupted by the doorbell, which Conner went to answer.
"Hi!" Bree said happily. "Ooh, I love your suit!"
"Thanks," Conner said in awe. "You look incredible."
Bree was wearing a long evening gown with sheer sleeves. The colour was the same shade of green as Conner's suit. She had put her hair up in an elegant bun, and the entire ensemble seemed to simmer magically.
"Well, you clean up pretty nicely yourself," she smirked.
"Are you going to bring her in or are you just gonna stand there like a lovesick puppy?" Charlotte called. Laughing under his breath, Conner walked alongside Bree back towards the living room. His mom let out a small gasp when she saw Bree's outfit.
"Bree, that dress is gorgeous! You look beautiful, where did you get it?" she asked.
"Thank you! I guess I just got a good word in with a fairy godmother." Bree said with a wink.
"You're gonna make that joke all night, aren't you?" Conner asked.
"Very much so, my friends are gonna be so pissed," she said. "But I have some concerns. Am I going to get my clothes back? Because I was wearing my favourite shirt."
Conner laughed and nodded, before checking his watch. "Well, the doors open right away here, and we better get going. And I believe this is for you." Conner grabbed the small case on the table, and passed it to Bree. Inside was a light pink corsage that paired perfectly with Bree's earrings.
"No, I need pictures!" Charlotte called. "Smile!"
Conner and Bree exchanged
small, exasperated smirks before posing in front of the camera. After a few minutes, Bob came to the rescue and tapped Charlotte on the shoulder.
"I think you have more than enough," he laughed. "We gotta let them head out."
"Oh, alright," she reluctantly agreed before embracing her son. "Remember, stay safe, don't be home too late, don't get pregnant behind a dumpster, and don't drink!" Charlotte advised. "But call me if you do, we'll come pick you up," she added.
"Fine, you're no fun," Conner laughed as he pulled back.
"I know, I'm ruining your night," his mom chuckled as she smoothed out his collar. "Now go, go have fun!"
Conner beamed and turned to Bree. "Ready?" He asked. She returned his smile and nodded, before pulling out her keys. "Are you driving, or am I?"
"I am," she said without hesitation. "I don't trust your driving."
"Hey!" Conner exclaimed, playfully elbowing her.
"You've hit too many things."
"Excuse me, it was one, and it came out of nowhere!"
"I love you, I really do. But it was a mailbox."
Conner rolled his eyes, wrapped his arm around Bree's shoulder and waved to his parents before walking out the door.
"You act all high and mighty, but if I remember correctly, you're the one with the ticket for running a stop sign."
"Oh, shut up," Bree said as she hopped in the driver's seat. "I'm not above making you walk."
He raised his hands in a mock surrender as they pulled out of the driveway.
A/N: This is my first published work for this fandom, and I'm so happy to have finished and uploaded it! It's also my first time putting a one shot on Wattpad, not too sure how I feel about that lol. Maybe I'll move some of my other ones here as well. If anyone has any ideas/requests for tlos fics, please let me know, because I have nothing to do, and can feel myself running out of inspiration lol!
Thanks to @Constant_Brainrot for beta reading this!
