As we sat down in Erina's booth, Souma looked at us from the floor, and he had a look that told the story: he's screwed. However, I feel that he deserves at least some respect because of how he got here.
I can hear some commentators near the stage speaking Japanese that I could understand, thanks to my improvement, but it wasn't about that. It was about the survival of the Bowl Club and, weirdly, I was rooting for Souma because I want Bowl Club to still be around.
I always wondered and I still wonder to this day: does everything have be black and white in this kindergarten world of ours? Unknown to the world, there's a grey area and I'm pretty sure Erina found mine today, seeing that Bowl Club shouldn't be cancelled and she said...
Erina: Well, at least you get to remember it as a memory.
Yeah I get to remember it just because it's been underrated for a long time and it shouldn't be cancelled.
I respectfully disagreed with Erina because Bowl Club deserves to be respected. Souma, I hope he wins.
~The Food War: Souma vs Ikumi~
When Souma came out, he was walking in cheap store steak in a plastic bag for the shokugeki. WHAT?!! Coming from the opponent, the judges, and the students themselves, they were pissed because Tohtski wasn't about bland, cheap food, it was about quality, flavor, and how the food shouldn't be overlooked.
The challenge began with Ikumi getting started on smoking the meat as fast as she could to make a rice bowl. Souma was seasoning the meat and cooking the rice at the same time. I have mad respect for him but if Ikumi wins, I was gonna cry myself to sleep (not really).
~30 Minutes Later~
The challenge was finished and there's a big difference between Ikumi and Souma. I saw something pink in Souma's bowl. I've never seen that before and it was obvious from the look of it: prickled pear seasoning. That was interesting, maybe Souma has an edge in secret weaponry in cooking.
Ikumi was up first and when the judges took a bite, they had the face of a foodgasm. They kept eating it until they were full. But when they got to Souma's bowl, they kept eating and eating and eating until the bowl was EMPTY.
It was obvious: Soma won the food war and the Bowl Club was saved. I can tell Erina and Ikumi weren't happy, but maybe they can learn from losing and how they can learn from their mistakes. When I looked at Erina, she was PISSED.
Y/N: Erina? Are you alright?
Erina: I fine.
Y/N: No you're not. I can tell you're not because of the way you're acting.
Erina: You are right. I do not believe that Soma won. I am disappointed in Ikumi. She is off my staff.
Y/N: No. Erina. Look at me.
Erina looked at me with a pissed off look. I had to make sure that I don't piss her off even more after looking at her.
Y/N: Just because she lost the challenge it doesn't mean she can't be off your staff. Maybe she can get better.
Erina: You do not understand Y/N! She is world famous meat master!
A meat master? The hell does that even mean?
Erina: I know what you are thinking and yes, she knows what meat brand to use in cooking. You want this friendship to end?!
Y/N: No, I don't! I just didn't know what you meant. That's it.
Erina: Okay. She off my staff but you now my second assistant.
Y/N: Sounds fair, but I still need to learn.
I walked away to cheer Ikumi up, although she probably hates me now.
(Ikumi! Are you okay?)
She looked back and was a bit pissed, but lowered her temper at me.
(What do you want?)
(I wanted to come by and see how you're doing. Sorry that you lost. I can relate.)
(What do you mean you can relate? You know nothing about me.)
(I know enough to know that I have to be honest with you: my mom recently was diagnosed with breast cancer and there's a 1 in 5 chance she'll lose the battle.)
(Oh, I'm sorry.)
(Don't worry. She'll win out, no problem.)
(How'd you react to her diagnosis?)
(Not well. I slammed the door and sobbed my eyes out that day. What was even worse was that it was the day I passed the Transfer Challenge. Of all the days it could've been, it had to be that day.)
(Let me know if you need something. You have my support.)
(Thanks Ikumi. Sorry for the loss as well.)
(Don't be. It was a stupid food war anyway.)
(I wouldn't call it stupid, blondie, because think about it: if it were the other way around would you fight to save Bowl Club?)
When she heard that, Ikumi was a little shocked, but knew the answer. She turned around to give me her answer.
(You may be right. I would have saved Bowl Club if I was Soma.)
(I intend to agree. I gotta get back with Erina. She would want me. Also, she sent me to let you know that you're off her staff. These aren't my words, Erina gave me the message.)
(Okay. Tell her that I apologize for failing her.)
(I will. You go on home.)
(See you later.)
Y/N: ええ。 (Yeah.)
As I was walking back to Erina, I thought I heard Ikumi crying. I felt so bad for her. She wanted to win, although it was to cancel Bowl Club.
So, just to make her feel better, I turned around and hugged her. I felt a bit uncomfortable doing this, but to me, this is the only way for her to calm down. I felt like Ikumi needed some comfort after what happened so for me giving her a little hug is just the way to do it.
