"Good morning, class! My name is Mr. Pierce, and I will be your Pre-Algebra teacher. Please take out your notebooks and be ready to take notes." Great, my first class just had to be math. I grab my bag to take out my notebook. Shoot! I forgot to put my notebooks in my bag!

"Mr. Pierce, I left my notebooks at home. Do you have any paper I could use?"

"Here, I'll give you a notebook so you can have paper for the rest of your classes as well" He kindly responded, walking over to a counter with a couple of notebooks on it. Wow. Most teachers only give you one or two sheets of paper, not a whole notebook!

"Here." He says, handing me the notebook. I carefully take it from him and open to the first page. I take out a pencil and write my name on the inside of the notebook, just in case I leave it somewhere that I can't find it. I began to hear snickering from behind me. I turn around, searching for the source. Once I turn around, it goes quiet. After a few minutes of searching, unable to find the source, due to them going silent, I turn my attention back to the teacher. Suddenly the snickering starts back up again, sounding much closer than before. I quickly look behind me and see 2 boys leaning towards each other, looking at me and snickering. Great first class of the day and I am already getting made fun of. At this point all I can think of doing is trying to draw as little attention as possible. I sink down in my chair with high hopes that will help.

"Okay class, let's get started. First we are going to go over class rules then ...." Mr. Pierce starts off. Once we start getting into the actual math, I grab my pencil so I can take notes. I now began to hear whispering alongside the snickering. In the mix of it all, I manage to make out what they were saying to each other.

"He is dressed like a boy, but his face looks like a girl." One of them whispered. He? Who the heck do they think they are to assume my gender like that! I am bigender, I am not a boy nor a girl, I am both. If they call me a boy one more time, I will be saying something. Ugh I hate when people assume my gender.

"Hey guys, that's enough, come on leave the new kid be." I hear a different student say, defending me. I turn around to look at my defender.

"Thank you, I was about to tell them off myself." I kindly thank them.

"Of course! I hate when they bully people. I'm Cassidy by the way, Cass for short. What's your name?" Phew, today might not be so bad after all.

"I'm-"

"Aww look at him, thinking he can steal Cass from us. Yeah right. Cass, stop talking to him." They command Cassidy. That's it, I'm saying something.

"First of all, why are you telling Cassidy what to do like you are her mother or something? Second of all, quit calling me a boy. I am not a boy." Let's hope this doesn't make things worse.

"I'm not a boy." They mock me.

"Just ignore Paul. You don't need to stick up for me either. I'm used to it." She told me quietly.

"Well I'm sorry but I am not just going to sit around and let them make fun of me or anyone else for that matter." I quickly snapped back at her.

"First of all, Cassidy is my sister and I am the older sibling, therefore I am allowed to tell her what to do. Secondly, You look like a boy. You're dressed like a boy. How are you not a boy?" Paul sneered at me.

"Paul, you're only two minutes older than me. We're twins in case you forgot." Cassidy snapped at him.

"Well I am still the older twin, so it's not like that really matters anyways." Paul retorts back at her.

"Just because I look like a boy and I dress like a boy, that doesn't mean that I am a boy, so you can quit assuming my gender. Thank you very much."

"Oh yeah? Then what are you? A girl?"

"No I am not." I answer trying to keep my cool.

"So you're not a boy or a girl. What are you then? Huh?" He asked bewildered.

"It's called bigender. Have you ever heard of it?" I retorted.

"What the heck is bigender?"

"Sigh. Bigender is when someone identifies themselves as both male and female." I explain, irritated that instead of paying attention to the teacher I am dealing with an ignorant bullie.

"So in other words, you're trans in a way?" He asked, double checking that he understood properly.

"Yes. Are you done yet? I have more important things to worry about." I reply, getting more irritated by the minute.

"No. I'm not even close to being done yet." He responds rudely.

"That's enough Paul. Leave them alone." Cassidy snapped at him, defending me yet again.

"And why should I listen to you?" Paul snapped back.

"Because if you don't, I am going to tell Mom and Dad that you are still bullying people." She politely answered, proud of herself.

"No! Don't tell mom and dad! Please, I am begging you!" Paul pleads. Ha that's what you get for being so rude to your own sister.

"Well then I guess you better stop bullying people, now shouldn't you?"

"Ugh. Okay fine, I'll stop." He gives into Cass. Hallelujah, I thought it would never end. Next thing I know the bell rings for us to go to our next class and everyone begins to gather their belongings and leave class.
