Mickey is a bomb sniffer for the cold war- raised and trained by lieutenant Bryn. Bryn is captured as a prisoner of war. Mickey is sent home to Bryns sister, Tessa. Tessa dies in car crash. Mickey is sent to shelter-no other family members. Volunteer adopts him out- keeps him,for five years. Ends with soldier returning- who leaves Mickey with the volunteer.
