Darkness. Everything was so dark. No light would ever pierce this bubble of blackness around her. It was there all day and night, though she no longer could tell the difference. It all looked the same. She couldn't even remember when it had come the first time. Days, months, years ago? She didn't want to think about it. The only thing that ever penetrated the gloom around her, was this voice. She knew it, deep down she knew whom it belonged to, but every time she thought about it, it slipped away.

"Come now, my dear," that voice purred, making her shake with fear. That voice never, never, meant anything good. "Come on now," it said again, a hand gripping her arm and pulling her around, "We need to make an appearance."
