Tanora was furious. With herself, her father, Cove and the whole world. She stormed down to her friend Rane's house. If he wasn't still awake, she would go to his window and throw rock at it. He'd probably gotten used to being woken up in the middle of the night. Tanora had.

Luckily Rane's mother opened the door for her and let her in. She was a wonderful woman. Tanora considered her as a substitute mother, as her mother had passed away early in her childhood. Not just Rane was used to having visits in the middle of night, his mother too. She didn't even ask what Tanora was doing out so late.

"Hi, Tan. Looking for Rane? He's in his room," she was greeted.

"Thanks. Important business," Tanora forced a smile.

Rane's mother smiled back. "Always important business with you two."

Tanora ran up the stairs and didn't stop to knock on Rane's door. He was already sleeping but she didn't care at all. She just needed someone who would understand. Not like her father who believed in the goodness in all people.

"Gahh, Tan what are you doing here?" Rane yelped as he got woken up. "You know I get cranky if I don't get enough sleep."

"I don't care, Rane. Remember the rumor about the traveler that might be a lordling?" Tanora answered.

"Jeez Tanora, what does he have to do with this? You fall in love with him or what?"

Her tone had dangerously edge now. "Rane, listen! My father let him stay with us. And then he expects me to trust that snob. Can you believe that?! I'm sleeping here tonight and praying that person is gone by tomorrow."

"Ok, I understand. I shouldn't have made fun of you. You want to talk about it?" but her friend stopped at the obvious message she sent him by turning away from him. Tanora didn't want to talk about it, and she was really grateful that Rane understood.

The next morning, she left Rane's place early after assuring his mother she would eat breakfast at her house. Tanora prayed that their guest had gone. But as she got to her house he was sitting at the table, eating breakfast while sticking his abnormally large nose in one of her favorite books.

"Give that to me! You have no right to touch that!" Tanora yelled and yanked the book out of Cove's hands.

"I see you're still mad at him for no reason," came her father's calm voice from behind. "It's all alright Tan. Cove told me his story this morning. He is searching for a very special person, and he'll be leaving tomorrow. The young man has asked for a tour of our village. Would you show him around? I have quite a lot to do today. As there's not much to see, you can take him to the river after and introduce him to Rane. Wouldn't that be fun?"
