A/N: The picture above is how I imagine Mia Rivers, but feel free to imagine her however you like.

Mia Rivers' POV

Darkness.

Endless darkness which stretched on for miles and miles surrounded me.

Where am I? I wondered.

I was about to take a step forward, then I thought better of it. What if I was standing at the edge of a cliff?

Think Mia. Your sight is gone. Use your other senses. I chastised myself.

I took a deep breath in. Flowers. Am I in a field? Garden? That's absurd. What would I be doing in any of those places?

I shook my head and tuned into my surroundings. It was silent a moment ago, was it not? What's that sound?

I titled my head to the direction of the sound and I listened. It sounded like... laughter? But whose? It was too light to be a masculine laugh, yet it was not a feminine laughter either.

A kid's laugh? Yes, that's it. Best guess would be a 6- or 7-years old boy. It was a happy laughter. I furrowed my brows as I listened intently. It sounded like the boy was running. He was probably being chased by someone.

His Dad, maybe. Or perhaps his mum or sibling. Or someone else.

Suddenly, the sound got louder and louder. Startled, I turned around, searching blindly for the source of the sound. I spun so quickly that I lost my balance and fell.

I fell right into my bed and I bolted upright.

I was breathing rapidly and drenched in sweat again.

"Mia, don't tell me you're still sleeping." Aunt Sophia called from somewhere outside my room.

Her footsteps grew louder and it finally stopped right in front of my room door. She knocked once and opened the door.

She gave me a once over stopping to make eye contact with me. Something in my eyes must have given away my disorientation. In a split second, she rushed into the room to sit beside me.

"Oh honey, not again." She said as she hugged me.

"It wasn't that bad. It was just a boy's laughter." I said, trying to convince her not to worry.

"Really? You're okay?" She asked as she pulled away from the hug and held my hands.

"Yes I am."

She searched my eyes, trying to see if it was a lie. "Alright" She finally said, convinced.

"Get ready, today's the board members meeting, remember?" She reminded me.

"Ohhh, that's true." I said, facepalming myself.

I jumped out of bed and rushed to the bathroom.

"Yes, good morning, Aunt Sophia" She called out sarcastically as I rushed to the bathroom.

I rushed back to the room and kissed her cheek. "Good morning, Aunt Sophia."

She just chuckled and shook her head. I ran back to the bathroom and started the process of getting ready.

I brushed my teeth and washed my shoulder-length burgundy hair, which was a shade or two lighter than dark red. I've always loved my natural hair color, it's very rich and beautiful. Hmm, I wonder if it'll turn slime green overnight.

Mia! Stop having all these weird thoughts! I admonished myself.

I shuddered and shook that terrible thought away and took a shower. Then I went to my closet to get dressed.
