Kamren
"Hey papa, can we have a large cheese pizza. No toppings." I looked down at her, observing her proportions and mannerisms. She looked so radiant when she spoke. Passionate about everything she did no matter what it was.
I love the way she scratches her thigh and squints everytime she gets frustrated with something. Studying with her is no joke, you gotta be on top of ya game. No time to play around.
I started thinking about what my roommate told me about her and her situation with Ray. I didn't really care to be honest. Never competed with anybody over a woman cause I'm just like that. I felt bad for her sometimes.
I'd always see her staring at Ray whenever they were on the field and I happened to walk by. Ray always ignored and played with her like she was a game. Imma bet my roommate tomorrow on if Ray would start talking to her more if she sees her with me. I'll win anyways.
She tucked a loose curl behind her ear before she looked at me. She turned back around as soon as she seen me already staring at her. I'm confused on if she likes eye contact or not. She stared me in my eyes as a tease earlier in the room but now she can't look at me for two seconds.
"Maliya" she turned her head and looked up at me, "Hmm?" "You feel uncomfortable holding eye contact with me mama?" she blinked slowly then she sped up the pace.
"No, no, no!" She shook her head vigorously to show her honesty. "I love looking at you! Your eyes just look calculating and it scares me." What did she mean by that? "Scares you?" I raised my brow a little, "Like you're studying me and when you do that I feel like you'll see my flaws." Oh.
We stood off to the side to let other people order and I pulled her into me. I rested my left hand on her lower back and tilted her chin up towards me. I peered into her eyes watching as she tried to look at everything but me.
"Flaws are what make you, you. Don't try to shy away from me because of them. Everybody has flaws and that's what makes us human"I appreciated the fact that she got the courage to look at me while I was speaking. "Okay" she spoke in a soft voice to which I smiled.
"You're really making me want to kiss you right now Kam" "What's stopping you?" she sighed, "I don't know where ya lips been girl" she scrunched her nose. "They been on every last crevice of ya grandmother" She dropped her jaw, "EW!" We both laughed and held each other before our number was called.
I held the door open for her with the pizza in my hand. She wanted to carry the soda even though I told her I had it. "What time is it?" I asked. She got her phone from her pocket and checked, "It's 6:11" "Thank you mama-" "Yo Kam!" I turned and looked down the street to where I saw my cousin T.
We dapped each other up and I nodded at the dude that was with him. He looked like he weighed the same amount as Liya. He had a skinny frame and wore clear glasses paired with an anime shirt, black shorts and purple crocs. He waved towards me and smiled shyly.
"You heading back to campus?" "Yeah, we came down here to grab sum to eat" He looked at Maliya and stuck his hand out to greet her. "Ello m'lady" I shook my head, this fool really was a clown.
She shook his hand and they introduced themselves. "Kam, this Lamar" "Nice to meet you Lamar" "You too" He started to shift his body more towards T which had me speculating. My cousin never said he liked dudes, not that he had to, but we tell each other almost everything so I had questions.
I didn't want to say anything outta pocket so I shut my mouth. "We heading up there too, we could walk with y'all?" Maliya answered, "Yeah. You guys go to Swarthmore too?" she questioned as we all fell into step. "Yeah, we sophomores though, '' she nodded.
On the way there we conversed about food, classes and different kinds of anime we watched or planned to watch soon. I leaned more into conversing with Lamar so that I could learn a little more about him in case we hung out again and it wouldn't be so awkward.
"I was really beating that niggas ass. Mink, mink, mink" we laughed at his antics because of how goofy he looked fighting the air. "Ight y'all we finna head in. Imma text yall later when I create the gc '' Maliya took a strong liking to them so much so that she forced us all to be 'besties.'
"Ight suh, I might be you know" he started gyrating the air and that's when I knew that was my cue. I took her key and unlocked the door while they were being dramatic with their goodbyes and see you laters.
My heart fluttered to my asshole when I saw two black figures standing in the middle of the room blocking me from the kitchen. They were moving in some weird motion so I carefully moved backwards until I was back out in the hallway. I rushed to the group with a panicked look on my face.
"Mama, we gotta call the police! It's two muhfuckas in there stealing ya shit" She had a concerned look on her face before we all rushed back to the dorm. "Alright on my cue we just bust in this shit, aight?" I whispered. They all nodded. "Three...two...o-" "Wait cuz" T whispered back. "What nigga!" "You still holding that big ass box of pizza" I looked down at my hand and formed my lips into an O shape.
Maliya snorted and I cut my eyes at her. Carefully placing the box down, I started to recount. "Three...two..o" "Wait!" I kissed my teeth "What T damn!" "What if they got guns or sum?" "He's right. I'm not tryna die in my Walmart fit for real-" Lamar spoke up. "Y'all get on my damn nerves I swear-" "Maliya don't play wimmie. If I die, I'm dying beautifully!" I placed my hands on both of their mouths.
"They finna kill us cause of y'all loud asses!" I felt something wet glide across my palm and I shrieked back. "OH GOD!" "Kamren!" they all yelled at me before the door cocked back and we were met with the faces of the culprits.
