Bree was considering how to assign status points and about to go shopping, 'cause shopping! When she heard the screech of the cage door being opened.
Bree looked up and there stood that same annoying and quiet guard who was assigned to follow her previously. Originally, when she first saw him, he appeared to be an old and scruffy man, but not anymore. The feeling of getting her adult mind back, was definitely liberating. Ah, this feeling that she'd been missing, but hadn't even realized. It was almost like her freshmen year in college when she'd had her first real interactions with men who appeared to be much more like men than the little boys, she was used to going to school with. Those guys were definitely intimidating.
She remembered looking at the other girls and wishing that she felt more confident in her looks. She noticed those same tempting guys, whom she felt too intimidated to approach, lingering gazes following other women. It was a bitter pill to swallow again and again. Those girls acted like it was nothing, like it was expected for them to be fussed over, and practically worshipped. There she was, desperate to feel appreciated, and really seen, by anyone, but life kicked her down, until she was a shell of a human being. She had even lost the hair she'd always hated, during cancer treatments. It was too late to salvage anything from that life, she needed to fully embrace this life.
She was bitter in her last life. She was able to admit that now. Likely some of her self defeating attitude had contributed to how poorly everything had turned out in the end. Perhaps she could have salvaged a little bit of happiness from that life, but now she'll never know.
Her low confidence had been crippling. If a guy approached her, she wondered if he was only after her money, or her family connections. She never knew who to trust. After her first crush, and best friend betrayed her, she closed her heart to others. She ended up dyeing lonely and painfully. In this life, she would not only protect herself, but she was also determined to enjoy herself. Why should she refuse, when society was not only giving her a pass, but begging her to enjoy herself?
She didn't want to have flashes of crippling regrets at the end of this life too. Her regrets had actually hurt more than her flesh being shredded. After all, it was impossible to tell if her life would suddenly end. That's how her life ended previously, suddenly.
Bree really studied this man whome she'd previously only glanced over. His short golden brown hair was cut in a no nonsense style, cut short on the sides, and slightly longer at the top. He had a slightly golden tan, lighter than her own skin tone, like almost every other shifter in Ekpen Village. Like nearly everyone else, he was shockingly beautiful, but in a fitness model or swimsuit model type of way. He had the bone structure and muscles, like a statue of a god. His face was well proportioned with serious and sexy blue-green eyes, below a pair of firm and well shaped eyebrows. His right eyebrow had a vertical scar, two-thirds out from the center. It would have made sense if the scar somehow detracted from his beauty, but it did not. It oddly gave him a little bit of a dangerous feel, which was in itself, tempting. He had a straight nose and deliciously kissable lips, full and firm, but not overly plump. There was a little bit of a five o-clock shadow along his firm jaw line. His sturdy looking neck led down to his broad shoulders and well toned arms. He was more muscular than the majority of other men in the village, but not in a vein bulging way. He was wearing a loose, light brown, leather tunic, which gave off a gladiator feel. She could see well toned pecs and the top of his abs showing from between the clumsily wrapped neckline. He looked serious on the surface, but exuded a sexy and wild energy that was just simmering underneath a facade; he was mouth wateringly delicious. He was wild and sexy, but reserved, as if no one was good enough to breech his defenses, this made him all the more tempting. She found herself wanting to pull out that wild energy that she could sense in him.
She looked him up and down, as if she were the predator shifter and not him. His intense blue-green eyes minutely widened and his sexy lips slightly parted. Bree could see the tips of his fangs slightly elongate and show between his lips, a sign that he was not impervious to her attention. When their eyes locked, his round pupils elongated into diamond shaped cat pupils and his eye color shifted from blue-green to shimmering gold.
These changes were so startling, that it made her want him all the more.Yes, she admitted to herself, that she wanted this man. She wanted him. Although this didn't seem like much of a statement, it was huge for her. In her previous life, she would never admit that she wanted anything, because she never believed that anything she wanted, was obtainable.
For the first time in her two lives, a strong shiver shot up her back and her whole body tingled. This was empowerment she felt, real, true, empowerment, and she wanted more. She sucked in a small blissful gasp and nibbled on her lower lip, while her eyes dilated. She decided then and there, that this man would be hers.
She watched as his head tilted slightly. Just a hint of a wicked grin flashed onto his tempting lips, before quickly disappearing, as if it had never been. She watched as his chest raised and lowered in a deep relaxing breath, while he closed his eyes. When his eyes opened again, they were back to their normal blue-green color with rounded pupils. His fangs shrunk back down into just pointy looking normal canine's. He looked, in all respects, like a human, albeit an incredibly sexy, photo-shopped human.
