The entire junior and senior body of Clearwater University had been talking about Ashley McClair's beach blowout for weeks. Since her parents owned a fancy, "new-money" condo in a private gated mansion. Ashley had made the biggest deal of wanting the biggest party ever. Since she wanted her senior year to go out with a bang, everyone was invited who happened to be junior and senior or college kids. Even those others shunned were invited. Charlie, being a junior, had also been looking forward to the party. There were a lot of problems at home and it had been a while since he was invited to anything interesting, so a party seemed promising. Even if it was being thrown by a bimbo like Ashley.
It was the day of the party and since it was a Friday, Charlie still had to go to school. He slept into the last possible minute as usual, the harvest hour creeping through his blinds and illuminating over the bridge of his nose. He only awoke to the blaring of a car alarm coming from his phone, shaking him out of his dreams. He barely sat up before lazily throwing his palm over the alarm and hitting snooze and rolling back over. Not five minutes later, the alarm went off again, and he finally arose with a deep frown. Shutting the alarm off, he rubbed his eyes and threw a towel over his shoulder.
"Charles Jonathan Hayes! Are you up?!" a harsh female voice echoed from downstairs.
"Yup." he sneered before attempting to open the bathroom door, which was locked. "Fuck." he whispered before sighing. "Liz?!" He shouted, hoping to god his little sister wasn't using up all the hot water.
"Nope, Fiona," Elizabeth announced behind him with a smile as she dried off her hair with a far too innocent smile for a thirteen-year-old. "You're gonna be way out of water. Should have gotten up early, like me." She added as she went downstairs, shoving by her brother as she went. "Fi, hurry up!" He yelled, kicking the bathroom door with a grunt. He hated living with a bunch of girls. They always took too long to get ready, and it didn't help that they were younger, so they drove him crazy. And his mom would always choose their sides. He shook his head as he waited for his sister to be done.
Five minutes later, the older girl came out of the bathroom fully dressed and hair blow dried and curled. "Oops, sorry, you should have woken up earlier." She said with a smirk before walking downstairs. "You've got 10 minutes, by the way!" She yelled up to him.
"Fucking ridiculous." He mumbled as he took the quickest, coldest shower of all time.
"Took you long enough. You missed breakfast, so you get a banana." His mother said to him as she handed him the yellow fruit and ushered the children out of the house. "You're late enough, so hurry it up, Charlie!" She ordered as she watched from the window as the two girls fought over the front seat.
Charlie drove quietly until Fiona put on the radio to 750, which Charlie quickly switched to a different station, to the girl's dismay. "Fuck. No." He said simply. "Country is utter shit." He added as he drove and tried to ignore Liz's gawking over boys and Fiona making fun of the pictures she had shown her.
"First stop, get out," he said as he pulled up to a preppy little private school that his smart, little preppy sister had gotten a scholarship to last year. Cheshire Private school was for the musically inclined girls of North Carolina. No boys allowed, strict dress code (uniforms), and above all else, perfection. Elizabeth fit in perfectly there since she was quite the perfectionist. Fiona wouldn't admit it, but she was jealous of her younger sister. The two were both musical prodigies but the school decided Elizabeth had more promise.
A short drive later and the two were at their very normal highschool. "Don't get into too much trouble at Ashley's party. Take pictures." Fiona said casually before pulling down the mirror and applying lip gloss, eyeliner and whatever else she had in her makeup bag.
