The impact of the collision made pain surge through my head and I landed with a thud. I swore under my breath and for a few seconds was blinded by the sunlight that poured into my room through the blue curtains that hung.

I got them for the purpose of not letting that cancerous brightness through. I picked myself off the floor and sat upright, holding the side of my head that hurt.

"Dom, sweetheart? Did you fall off the couch again?" My mother stifled a laugh as she stood in the doorway.

"If you bothered getting me a bed, I wouldn't be tumbling off every night. I swear I've lost more brain cells in these past few months than I do in one Maths class." I frowned, rubbing my head trying to make the burning ache lessen.

"I'll get you a pack of ice." My mum said and turned to go downstairs.

"Get me a bed too while you're at it." I yelled hoping she'd hear me.

"Shut up Dom." She said sternly. I groaned inwardly and reached for my phone. This sofa was too small and although it was my fault for destroying my bed, I wasn't too pleased with the aspect of me sleeping on this tiny thing for the rest of the year.

I scrolled through the various notifications till one caught my eye and made me crack a smile. I was still curious as to if she reciprocated my attraction towards her or not. I turned my back to the sofa and rested against it, looking at her contact information. On impulse, my finger clicked the 'call' button and I waited for her to answer.

After a few seconds of me mouthing along to her caller tune, I heard her voice. "Hello?" She said groggily. Shit, I woke her up. I glanced at the clock and saw the time. 8:30 am. Great job Dom, top notch move there.

"Hi" I said rubbing my hand on my forehead. "It's uh, it's me Dom." I said unsure if she thought of me as a clingy imbecile or a whack job.

"Hello Dom. You do realise it's not even 9 yet, right?" She said chuckling softly.

"I know, I'm so sorry. This was rather stupid on my part." I apologised, scratching the back of my neck.

"It's okay. I was supposed to be up anyway."

"Why?"

"Diner shift? Anyway, I should go get dressed. Duty calls."

"I'll leave you to it. Bye." I said mentally face palming myself. She thinks I'm a creep. Brilliant.

"Dom, um, you could come by. By the diner?" She asked. I could sense the nervousness in her tone and knew it wasn't just me that was awkward.

"What?" I blurted.

"Actually the breakfast is pretty decent here so if you want to, you know, get something youre welcome to drop by." She said hurriedly.

"Yeah I'd like that. See you in a few?"

"Okay. Bye Dommy."

"Bye Lav." I smiled to myself and shut the phone. I barely knew this girl and we were already on nickname bases. Maybe I'm reading too much into this.
I stared at my phone till I felt an inexplicably cold object hit my shoulder.

"Apply to injured area." My mum said.

"Thanks to you, my shoulder is probably bruised." I said chuckling and placing the ice pack on my head.

"Dominic if I wanted a drama queen, I would have adopted Susan. Man up." She laughed.

I shuddered at the thought of cousin Susy. That one was definitely a nightmare.

"You love me." I stated, grinning. She walked past me and started picking up my dirty clothes, then seated herself next to me.

"Now which of my lovely sons is going to get me waffles? Hmm?" She said ruffling my hair. I swatted her hand away, a frown forming on my face.
