Dear Diary,

Today is my birthday.

I've got to admit, it came flying this semester. It probably has something to do with the boyfriend that I never expected to have, though.

I'm smiling just thinking about him.

Speaking of...

I raise my body from the bed when Ryder's weight shuffles around on the mattress.

"Rhett, what—"

"—Happy fucking birthday, baby," he smiles before reaching over the large tray of breakfast now on my lap, and kisses me once.

"You made me breakfast?" I'm still shocked and probably entirely too red.

"I can cook, remember? Besides, it's nothing special." He shy's away before shuffling things around on the tray.

"Nothing special? You have waffles, pancakes, strawberries with chocolate, coffee, and orange juice." I point out with a huge smile.

"A mimosa, actually. You'll like it. Try it," he holds up the thin glass towards me.

I graciously accept and take a sip, instantly feeling the tang of alcohol on my tongue.

It might be too early to drink, but it's just a mimosa, right?

"Thank you, Rhett. Honestly, I wasn't expecting this."

He takes the glass from me and places it down on my nightstand, before lifting the table and moving it out of his way so that he can crawl over my body.

"Did you think that I would forget?" he asks me with a frown.

"Of course not. I just didn't think that it was necessary for you to go through the trouble—"

"—Making my girl breakfast on her birthday is not trouble. It's an honour," he winks before kissing me again.

"Let me brush, you heathen!" I squeal just as he rolls his eyes and climbs off of me.

"Okay, but make it quick. I've been waiting for you to wake up for an hour." He holds out his hand for me to take.

When I'm standing, I look at my phone and ignore the missed calls and messages from my parents, before noticing that it's only seven-in-the-morning.

"You woke up at six?" I lift my eyebrows in shock and amusement.

"Okay, so I haven't exactly made waffles and pancakes before. It might've taken me some time to perfect the—"

I cut him off by jumping into his body and kissing him, hard. I know that I just made it a point to go and brush, but I couldn't help myself.

As I try to remove myself from his hold, his hands tighten their grip around my ass, preventing me from getting too far.

"That's not fair," he whines.

"Give me five minutes." I scamper off towards my bathroom before he can reply.

As promised, I return to him – sitting in my bed picking at the fruits – five minutes later, clean and dressed in an oversized sweater and my same sleep shorts.

As soon as Ryder spots me, he makes it a point to let out an exaggerated groan.

"I took five minutes!" I protest.
