Chapter 2
“Please fasten your seatbelts as we begin our decline,” an annoyingly chirpy voice calls over the intercom. I groan and sit up, stretching my back. I reach to my right and pull down my seatbelt. I sit back in my seat and rub my eyes. I hate riding on planes, they’re so boring. The most exciting thing that happened was a bird flying into my window… stupid bird. I sigh as I feel my stomach jump up to my heart as the plane starts to lower.
“Oh my God, we’re going to die!” the person next to me hisses. I look over at him with an eyebrow raised. He’s about my age, tan skin, dark black hair, and these amazing green eyes. His arms are clutching the armrest making his muscles obvious.
“No we won’t,” I say shaking my head at him. He looks over at me not believing me I suppose.
“How do you know?” he asks and I just shrug.
“Planes are actually safer than riding in a car,” I lie. Honestly, I have no clue if that’s true or not, I just know that we’re not going to crash. I’ve never died before my 16th birthday. His hand loosens a bit but he still clutches that armrest for dear life.
“Name’s Warren, what’s yours?” he asks and I cock an eyebrow at him.
“Is your freaking out just a way to get a defenseless girl to talk to you?” I ask curiously.
“Of course not, if you don’t want to answer the question you can just go back to snoring.”
‘I do not snore,” I huff making him smirk.
“Yes, yes you do. So, what about that name?” he asks with a grin.
“How about not?” I ask looking away from him. Stupid, arrogant, hot boy.
“How about- oh God!” he cries as the plane starts bounce on the landing strip. I look over at his now pale, greenish face.
“First time on an airplane?” I ask and he shakes his head yes as he grips the armrest so hard, I’m surprised it hasn’t broken. For the next bouncy minute, I watch as his face turns even greener. His face a lighter shade of green as his jade eyes. Why is he so interesting?
Finally, the airplane stops and the seatbelt light flashes off. “You play now begin your departure from the plane. Thank you for choosing our airline, and have a great day,” that chirpy voice says again.
I stand up and groan as my knees crack. I reach up to grab my bag, but it’s gone. “Here,” Warren says handing me my bag.
I glare at him. “Do you make a habit of stealing girl’s bags?”
He looks away with a blush. “I was only trying to help,” he mumbles. I sigh and run a hand through my curly hair.
“Look, I’m sorry, I’m just not in a good mood right now,” I mumble pushing past him.
“It’s s’kay,” he says behind me. I jump a little but ignore him. I take in a deep breath as I step out of the plane and onto the landing strip. I push the strap of my bag higher on my arm and walk towards the terminal. I smile as I see a little girl, maybe four years old, with her face plastered to the glass window. I watch as her face lights up in joy at the sight of someone in the crowd behind me, and jump around clapping. I laugh a little before stepping into the terminal itself.
I look around casually thinking I would see mom there. I shrug as I don’t see her; she’s probably in the crowd somewhere. I pull out my cell phone and send her a quick text asking where she is before moving over to baggage claim. I wait, slightly bored, as I collect my 7 large, over stuffed bags, and this isn’t all of my clothing and what not. Most of my belongings were sent to mom’s house already. I feel bad, to say the least, about them buying me extra materials. It’s a waste of money since I’ll be dead in a few months, but it’s not as if I can tell them that.
My phone buzzes in my pocket making me jump slightly. I pull it out and quickly scan the text aka mini story.
Hello honey, I’m so glad that you’ve decided to come live with me! You will not regret it! We’ll do so many things together, like go to the beach, and premiers! That’ll be fun, right? Before you start thinking, “oh she forgot about me”, I didn’t, I promise! I’m just stuck here at the shoot, but no worries! A co-worker’s son just came home from living in Maine, and he should be by soon to pick you up! I already have your room set up, so no worries there! Just get home, and have explore the city!
-Love mom
I shut the phone shut and stick it in my pocket, rubbing my temples. Stupid mother having to be an actress. “Why hell again,” Warren says behind me making me jump. I turn around glaring at him, hands on my hips.
“Are you stalking me or something, because if you are, I will call the cops,” I threaten as his smirk slides off his face replaced by a shocked expression.
“What, me stalking you? Oh no, you’ve got it all wrong babe, I have to wait for my mom’s co-workers stupid daughter to get her lazy butt here,” he says moving his hand through his hair looking mad. He looks over at me with those amazing green eyes. “Can you believe that I’m being made to chauffer a kid around?” he asks as I just stare at him blankly. Oh no, it can’t be, can it? “Woo-hoo, earth to airplane buddy,” he says snapping his huge hand in front of my face. I scowl at it, hitting it out of the way.
I pull out my phone and press number two on my speed dial. I wait a few seconds before mom’s perky voice comes on. “Hello sweetie, how was the plane, have you found the guy yet?”
“Hey mom, the plane ride was,” I glance over at Warren who looks at me hopeful, “uneventful,” I say turning my gaze away from his. “As for the last question, I’m not sure, what’s his name again?” I ask as I hear mom yell for the question out to someone.
“Uh, Warren, why?” she asks. I glare at the ugly tiled floor.
“No reason,” I grumble. “I’ll see you when you get home, bye, love you!” I say shutting the phone after mom’s farewells. I look over at Warren and sigh, shaking my head. I manage to grasp two suitcase handles in each hand and I start to stroll them away from Warren. I sigh and look back, “Well, aren’t you going to give your mom’s cow-worker’s kid a ride home?” I ask as his eyebrows jump up into his hairline.
“You’re her?” he asks as he looks away, a blush spreading over his tanned cheeks. I shake my head yes and watch him as he grabs the other three suitcases. “I didn’t mean any of that back there, I was just-I didn’t know it was you,” he says flashing me a grin.
“It’s s’kay,” I say huffing a little at the weight of the four suitcases. Warren looks down at me worriedly.
“Need some help?” he asks reaching for a suitcase but I pull it out of the way.
“Nope,” I say walking out into the hot Californian sun. Warren gets in front of me, leading me towards his car. I sigh at the sight of the red Ferrari. “Sweet ride,” I say as I put a few of the suitcases into the back of the car.
“Thanks,” Warren says, holding my door open. He shuts as soon as I get in and comes around to his side. Soon, we’re both buckled up with the air conditioner running on full blast to relieve us of the sweltering July heat. “So, do I get to know your name?” he asks wagging his eyebrows at me. I smirk at his hopeful expression.
“In your dreams,” I mutter before closing my eyes allowing the air condition to pull my dark hair back and away from my face. Warren sighs before pulling out of the airport parking lot.
