"What the heck are you talking about?! I can't possibly be this terrible! You just killed my only friend! I would never kill anyone, but maybe I'll make an exception for you!"
Rowan tried to tackle the creature, but yet again the passed right through it.
"Stupid child, you can't defeat yourself." The creature rasped."Stop saying that! You are not the 'evil' inside me!"
The new Nightmare started to change form. It turned into a handsome boy, and Rowan gasped. Then it turned into a labrador, then it turned into Mya. It spoke with Mya's voice.
"You let me die. You didn't try to save me. What kind of friend are you?""I-I tried! I honestly did!"
"You never try. You always push people away. You will never have friends, and you will never have a future."
"STOP!"
Mya turned into the boy. He looked at Rowan with pain and disgust.
"Mya is right. You always push people away. I thought you loved me, and you told me that we would be together forever. You lied. You're a liar."
"STOP IT! Leave me alone!"
The boy turned into the golden labrador. It stared at her with it's brown eyes, and it started whining. Rowan dropped to the ground. The dog went to her like it used to, and it nuzzled her hand. Rowan looked at him, and started to cry.
"I'm sorry." she sniffed. The dog looked into her eyes, but then they turned green, and her beloved dog turned into the new Nightmare.
"What kind of evil do they call you... You kill people, and then haunt others of their mistakes that they had wanted to bury."
"I am Malum Quod In." it rasped.
"Well, Malum Quod In, why are you here?" Rowan said through clenched teeth. It didn't answer, it only pointed at Rowan.
"You're saying it's my fault you're here?"
"Not you, your mind. I don't have time for these childish questions, shurai ca don!"
With that, Malum dissolved into a cloud of black smog, and raced away to a location Rowan did not know. She went to the body of Mya, and sat on her knees.
"This is just a nightmare. A terrible nightmare! When I wake up, you'll be- you'll be ok again. I won't be here, and- and we'll both be fine." she said in between sobs.It wasn't a dream, and she knew it. She just couldn't accept that her only friend in the world was gone. Also, the emotional pain was too great. Malum had shown her the real nightmares of her past that she had wanted so desperately to forget, and he made her memories say such horrible things.
"Worst part is is that what they said might be true." Rowan said to herself.
She didn't want to leave Mya's body in the forest to rot like this, so she picked her up by the arms and dragged her to the edge of the woods where the police would surely find her. Rowan couldn't stay, she had to go in the direction she saw Malum fly. She had to find a way to stop it before it killed anyone else.
She trekked off in that direction, and was walking by a cliff of rock when she heard a soft whisper.
"Pst! Rowan!"
She rolled her eyes, and looked around to find the noise.
"Over here."
Out of a little cave in the rock wall a boy came, a boy that Rowan knew to be Ben. He was tall, had sandy-blond hair, hazel eyes, and a slightly crooked nose. He would be handsome if he wasn't so dirty, but Ben lived in the woods in a small cave.
Rowan found him one day when exploring this part of the forest, and he nearly scared the daylights out of her! They hadn't talked very much, only to explain who they were. Ben wouldn't give away anything about why he lived here, and Rowan never pressured him about it.
