The tension. It's there, alright. The feeling of the energy around you darkening isn't very cute. "You absolute shitball!" The tension falters when Pigtails spills his water at an attempt to flip the bottle.
"Well, you absolute dumbass, what did you expect? You forgot the cap," Boron sighed, pinching his nose bridge. Hanabishi rolled his eyes, continuing to ramble on with muffled gibberish words. "Huh?!" Boron waved his arms in the air, something he tends to do when speaking. "Maybe if you made sense for a minute this village would be more sane,"
"You think I'm the reason this village is so fucked up?!" Something struck a cord in Pigtails. Now this sounded personal.
"Yeah," Rome answered this time, nodding sincerely. Hanabishi's head slowly turned to face my friend and his eyes grew darker.
"Okay! Okay, that's enough, now," a shorter man with long green hair entered the room, nervously smiling. I couldn't help but feel a sense of security. His energy was soothing. Walking with him in a dark forest would make the forest seem like the brightest place. Haruma placed his son down, nodding to greet the bearded man.
"Let's get back on track. Where are you guys from?" On sync, Rome and I shift in our seats uncomfortably.
"Hey, what's the hassle? Let's greet our new friends compassionately," the man sat down on the orange carpet, "I'm Toru Garakuta, nice to meet you,"
"Uh," I was stunned by his kindness; what a lovely man, "I'm Rine, this is my friend Rome,"
"Yeah, man, so, my lovely friend here took a wrong turn and this is where we ended up," Rome said in the most unconvincing manner, earning a baffled look from me.
"I live not too far. Just a bit passed the dirt roads," I maintained eye-contact with the man who gave off the most feline energy. His hair matched his lights and carpet; orange and suited for his calm demeanor. At first glance, this man seems hard to please yet hard to anger. Manage to piss him off and you'd wish you never met him. Toru, on the other hand, seems like a complete passive pacifist. He's definitely the type you can trust with more than just your drink - maybe your kids or something. He makes your heart flutter like a bird whenever he smiles. Unlike your heart fluttering, Hanabishi makes your head pound. He doesn't seem like a party-pooper, he's probably the one that ends up causing the most chaos; not the good kind, though. He wouldn't take care of your kids like Toru, he'd kick their shins for accidentally knocking his sandcastle. Part of me pities him for his behavior, it doesn't seem like he can control himself or even wants to be the way he is. I shift my gaze to the man beside him. He's wearing a school uniform but with his chest exposed. You'd think that someone like that doesn't care for punctuality, but that's a stereotype far from where he falls. Boron seems like the type to initiate a debate to spark up the energy. He probably reads a multitude of religious scriptures just out of curiosity and the need to know why people cling to their ideologies. His wavy maroon - no, burgundy hair falls to the sides of his face right below chin-length. Quite the dreamy guy, if you ask me. I broke the contact, looking around the man's house. There weren't many decorations up. The lights were orange-tinted, just like the carpets. His furniture was simple and neutral toned. Everything coordinated with each other in the most comforting manner. I couldn't help but notice the very few photo frames. Unable to make out the faces in the pictures, my curiosity was slightly pitched.
"Brat," the blond one spat. I eyed him irritably,
"What's your problem?"
"No one gives a shit where you live. Why are you here now? Why were you and piss boy running?" He stands up for the purpose of coming off as intimidating. I look up at him and smile mockingly, slightly twirling my hair. "Huh? What are you... like," he fumbles on his words which increases his anger, "what the hell are you - oh my God!" Hanabishi's face tints red as he stomps away furiously.
"He probably needs some anger management classes, but you get none of those around here," Boron tensely chuckles; almost shading the area he's in. They clearly don't seem too fond of their village; something Rome and I weren't expecting from a stereotypically classified area. This place is known as closed-off, conceited, even suspicious. Their people are supposed to live up to that stereotype. I feel almost guilty for not thinking twice about the rumors - for not playing devil's advocate and retracting people's flawed statements. I never paid them much thought, but maybe that's what got me here.
"I apologize on behalf of Hanabishi. You're welcome here anytime," I was too mesmerized by Toru's gentleness to notice Pigtails standing behind the couch,
"I don't need anyone apologizing for me. I don't need any of you speaking for me," I was expecting the same angry expression he wore earlier, but I was slightly surprised to see a more melancholic expression. He made direct eye-contact with me, and in response, I looked away. "Whatever, I'm leaving. Night," he walked away, hands tucked in his pockets.
"You guys are just gonna let him walk out like that? Is he even okay?" I question, eyeing the three guys.
"He'll be fine. He's staying at a friend's house tonight," Boron sighed.
"Maybe you two can meet the other guys tomorrow!" The green haired man suggested, clapping his hands together. I smiled at his enthusiasm, and for just a second, forgetting that this wasn't my area. This village isn't mine.Toru insisted we stay overnight as there was no way we'd make it back to the car in the pitch darkness. Rome and I stayed in one of Haruma's spare rooms. Turns out Toru didn't actually live in this house, he head back home with Boron a bit after we settled in.
"Hey, thanks for letting us crash here. Let me know if there's anything I can help with," I smiled politely at the tall man. He nodded, walking away.
