Silence
Whisper
Echo
Scream
I froze, startled by the words.
Those were not my words.
Those were not my thoughts.
A deep dense of dread crept into my mind as I realised something.
It was all over. They had won.
And I...
I had been betrayed.
Silence
I ignored the foriegn thought, now conveyed as a command, letting out a sob. I fell onto my knees, crying as I started to feel detached from everything that was happening. As if I was in a dream, but with a more hollow sensation.
Grief?
Exhaustion?
Hunger?
I'd experienced much of those recently.
My mind moved slowly, almost grudgingly, as if it didn't care about how much time I had left.
I threw back my head, laughing. It was a harsh laugh, full of black humor.
Whisper
"I'm going to die." I muttered, then started to laugh again at how wrong I was.
I wasn't going to die. My body would live on. Me, my concious thoughts, on the other hand, would be gone.
My thoughts went round in circles, wandering aimlessly. Purposeless.
I skimmed through memories and smiled as I made a connection.
No it wasn't grief, exhaustion or hunger. Those were painful.
This was a complete lack of feeling entirely.
Echo
I could hear them coming, their footsteps reverberating down the tunnel. They'd be worried. I grimaced in a poor imitation of a smile. First Torus would come. I could see him there, kneeling down to my level, anxious eyes searching my face for some hint of what had happened.
"Delta?" He would ask.
No...He asked. I realised that this was not mere imagination. It was real.
I met his eyes, my vision blurring from tears.
"Run."
I only noticed then that he had been holding my hand. His grip tightened before he let go and stood up then ran in the opposite direction.
