The gleaming sun rays, coming across the curtains, hits my eyes. I flatter my eyelashes, adjusting to the bright light of my room. The weather is so nice today. The bright sky showcasing the feeling of happiness and love.
"Wohooo....I woke up before the alarm, now that's something strange," I muttered to myself, wondering how that even happened.
Nevertheless I remember today's date. Today is a very special day. My mum's birthday. Yes, my mom, my source of strength, my everything. As soon as I remember her face, a warm smile crepts my lips, warming my heart with happiness.
I took her photo in my hand and look up at sky. "Happy Birthday Aai. I hope u are happy wherever u are. I miss u mumma...I miss u soo much. And I promise you, I will always be happy just like you wanted me to." I said wishing my mom as a sad smile crepts on my lips.
Today is her birthday and as I promised her I will always try to be happy. I miss her and di. I miss them so much and only I know how much their death affected me.
I slowly walk away from my bed and went forward to took the shower. As I was busy having my breakfast, I suddenly remember that I have to go to the 'Children's Foster Care Place' to give them some gifts for her birthday.
"Oh God, hurry up Teju!!! You are gonna be late otherwise. How stupid I am, how can I forgot this??" Muttering curses I hurried up and picked all the gifts I had bought for the children there.
After spending a wonderful Sunday with the kids first, and then watching Netflix all day long, it's finally time for bed. I look at the mirror and thought about how much I have changed over these years.
Well, I have achieved so many things on my own. I have my own apartment, a very nice part-time job (which I will not have to do now), excellent scores in my academics and after six months I will graduate with honors.
I sit back, leaning on the headboard of the bed, doing nothing but staring at photo of my mom. Suddenly my gaze shifted on a box laying under my table, I took the box and opened it.
Yes, THIS was the box, containing all the memories of the past, all the memories of my dreadful life few years back. Suddenly all the memories flooded back to me -- some sweet, some exciting and some very very dreadful....
