chapter one : jongho in disbelief and yeosang's shenanigans

choi jongho.

Jongho opened his mailbox and soon found a rose-gold colored envelope. He knew it's another soul to chase or rather get for the day. He closed the box as soon as he took out the envelope, anticipating to see who it is for today.

Opening the glazed seal, he took velum piece of board and read the text written there, "Kang Yeosang. 25 years old." And the address too. But there's one thing that Jongho found strange— no dates, no time and no cause of death.

He thought it might've been a typographical error but that would be weird, considering how meticulous people in his office are. Still, he shrugged it off.

"Maybe I'll go chase after his soul tonight. After all, I still have three other souls pending on the list." Jongho thought as he put the board back inside the envelope and went back inside of his house.

Unlike most grim reapers or death seen and portrayed in movies or other shows that wear large and black cloaks, Jongho's not part of those. He is rather the reaper who prefers to go with every century's flow.

Changing his fashion every ten decades is more of a sport to him than a necessity now. Well, Jongho's used to it after living for the past two-hundred twenty four years of his life as a reaper.

He would admit, there are a lot of dramatic souls out there whenever he's taking them already. A lot of them would plead not to be taken but in the end, they always end up either of the two circumstances they have: reincarnation or well, be a reaper and suffer for the next three-hundred years.

Those who lived a life that's fairly good — and by good, it's away from evil deeds — life. Regardless of a little sins here and there, if the council of dead (which Jongho never really met), finds out the reason behind these sins, then you're free to exit from the expired life and experience a new life package with updated terms and conditions.

For those who lived a sinful life, full of malicious and evil deeds, they are free to start training as a grim reaper, be stripped away of their emotions, be forced to wake up, take souls, sleep and repeat, just like what an idol basically does— just a little more rights because they have breaks and can file leaves easier (and still get paid).

Just don't forget what the most important thing of all: Be stripped of all human memories. Because memories cause emotions, and emotions cause complexities. And complexities cause troublesome mistakes.

And whatever he did in the past to become what he was today, Jongho'll never know why. Even if his sentence as a reaper ends, he'll never know why.

Jongho rushed towards his bathroom, seeing that he only have almost thirty minutes to prepare to get to their main office and take the files for this Kang Yeosang.

After successfully bathing without slipping and hitting his head on the tiled floor, he walked towards his room to dress up nicely— not bringing up too much attention by wearing a black suit partnered with black slacks. Just your typical office worker that orders a ton shit of iced americano.

When he felt like he's already presentable enough with his hair slicked up, he dashed to his door with the envelopes on his right hand.

Jongho doesn't really remember much about the life he's had before being a grim reaper. The most vivid memory he has right now, aside from failing classes of 'Soul Reaping Etiquettes: How to Act Around a Newly Dead Person' left to right, was the moment he accepted a very sketchy deal with someone who calls himself, 'the darkness' after he died.
