Levi watched through the window at rain dripping from the porch roof. Plop. Plop. It was slow and the neighborhood was quiet allowing him to hear it droop. Ploop. Ploop. It fell into the puddle It'd made on the porch railing — some of the water falling off the edge with each new splash.
Snowflakes fell lethargically in the background and you could see the heat in the air around you as the sun beamed down on the village. Despite the rays of warmth, a thick cloud of snow covered the small lands of yards each house got around their homes and the tops of buildings and the few year-round, dead-looking trees you could find randomly. They always hung dryly, swaying at the slightest of winds. Sometimes they annoyed Levi, other times they provided comfort — it was a love-hate relationship. This time, though, the trees provided nothing.
Nobody played outside, it was quiet and cold. Levi usually loved the peace, that's why he'd moved here in the first place — that's why he wanted to share it with someone he loved. Right now, Levi would have prefered those noisy brats from a couple streets over to come pounding on the door looking for cakes, candies, and pies. ...Or maybe not. Maybe he would just prefer to sit and wallow in the silence, watching as the world outside mocked him.
Pressure hurt his buttocks as he sat on the wooden ground of their home. The house was relatively small. 2 bedrooms (upstairs), one used as an office, 2 bathrooms (1 upstairs, 1 downstairs), a joint kitchen and living room (downstairs), and a small space in the living room at the front of the house where the ground elevated (downstairs). It was a cozy spot, his husband loved to ball into and cuddle together. The house was always warm and cozy, filled with Eren's vibrant motherly comfort and their love. No wonder those kids could never stay away, Levi couldn't either.
A chill rose the hairs on Levi's arms and neck as cold air snuck inside the house. The pale skin on his face froze with his forehead pressed against the window — chill seeming to flow right through the glass. Liquid crimson soaked into his clothes, causing it to stick to his skin. It was still a little warm.
Settled, Levi didn't want to move. He was conscious but he didn't want to move, blink, or speak. He didn't want to breathe. "Eren..." He managed, voice raspy as he listlessly looked down at the body between his legs. Levi's legs arched over Eren's while the other was used as a wall to keep the body up-right as it laid limply against Levi's muscular chest.
The body was cold and unmoving, teal eyes stared blankly without a sparkle in sight. Levi shifted, pulling the male in closer. One hand rested on the man's still chest from behind, and the other languidly cupped his cheek/neck. He pressed his face into the brunette bush and deeply inhaled the strawberry shampoo lathered into the soft hair, dull, silver irises carried slow, moving clouds in them as they stared bitterly at the loving scene outside.
Eren's usual scent of fresh mandarins was beginning to rot — the stench invaded Levi's nostrils and panged his heart. After everything... everything they'd been through. Life's already too short, anything can happen. Why can't everyone just mind their own fucking business? Why did it have to end?
"Eren..." Levi turned his head and inhaled his lover's scent, closing his eyes as a tear zipped down his face. Levi lifted Eren's head to look into his husband's eyes. His lip quivered at the sight. There was no focus, Eren wasn't looking at him. It was a horrid sight.
Levi caressed sun-kissed skin with his thumb as he perused the other's profile. He was still gorgeous after death. I suppose you could say dead gorgeous, haha. ...One after another, the tears wouldn't stop. Levi bit his lip, eyes squinched as he flattened his hand on Eren's eyes and brought down the man's eyelids over the used green irises. They used to change in the light, from green, to blue, to gold, to a teal swirl with golden stars. It'd been one of Levi's favorite mysteries — if only it had stayed one.
