It doesn't matter how many times you tell yourself that being single is fun, there will always be times when you question why you don't have anyone. Like, of course, you can live a happy life without a partner, but it never lasts very long because, after a while, you want to share that happiness with someone. At least that's my experience. I wouldn't talk to others about it. It's embarrassing to whine about that sort of thing, makes me look desperate. Then again, what else do you have friends for?
I have spent many nights out with Wanda and Natasha, just talking about love and particularly all the bad things that come with it. All the bad dates I've been on, all the people who have ghosted me, and all the ones I just didn't like. It's getting old. It's always the same.
Natasha goes out with someone whenever she feels like it and never really gets attached. She does what she wants, whatever she feels like. It must be nice to just view a sexual and romantic relationship as something extra on the side. Wanda isn't really interested in love or casual sex. Literally. I've never seen her with anyone, and she never talks about anyone either for that matter. She always seemed content enough with what she already had.
I do try to be more like them, to let things run their course and not think about it too much. I'm just too worried about all that stuff, at least that's what Wanda says. It's exactly what she said yesterday when we were discussing Valentine's day. Neither of us had any plans so we decided to get dressed up and hit up a bar or two. I wasn't all over the idea at first, but Wanda seemed to be so excited about it that I finally accepted. Nat couldn't come, said she had other plans. She didn't give many details, so I bet Wanda that she was going on a date with Steve. Wanda said the captain was far too innocent for Nat, yet I think that's part of what she loves about him.
As I look in the mirror, I wonder if the dress I chose is too much. I mean, Wanda said to go all out but one wrong move, and I'll flash someone. With this little dress, comfort is completely thrown out the window but maybe it's worth it. The black satin hugs every curve and crevice of my body and the longer I stare at the reflection, the more confident I feel. I turn around and look over my shoulder, inspecting every angle there is. It'll have to work.
When I've put on some jewelry and checked my hair for the last time, I sit down on my bed and check my phone. No new messages from Wanda. No need to be concerned though, there's still 10 minutes until she's supposed to be here.
Nevertheless, there's a knock on the door four minutes later. Shortly after, Wanda opens the door and enters my room with a smile on her lips.
"You look amazing!"
