It's getting brighter now. I can see the sun begin to rise to the sky.
We come up upon several AA and artillery guns on a large open field surrounded by trees. The guns are planted in trenches mazing through the field. It doesn't take us long to notice that one trench line is fairly close to where the field meets the forest.
Sam waves for us to follow him. We quietly make our way to the spot closest to the trenches.
Sam looks at me and the soldier next me.
"When I give the signal, throw one of your grenades at..."
Snap!
The soldier behind us stepped on a stick and made an awfully loud noise. The trooper froze in terror. Before anyone could tell him to get down, a shot comes from the field, knocking the soldier backwards onto the ground.
Sam sweared, then looked back at me and the soldier next to me.
"Through your grenades! Now!"
I grab a grenade from one of my pouches, pull the pin, and throw it as fast as I could.
Gunfire starts to spit at us. Sam waits. When the grenades go off, his face springs awake and yells,
"Go! Go! Go!"
The whole group charges into the trench in front of us.
When we get inside the trench, Sam yells, "Spread out! Spread out!"
Troopers shuffle through the trenches, trying to separate themselves from one other.
I'm behind one soldier as we run into a corner leading to an AA gun. He doesn't hesitate to run around the corner and as soon as he did, he twitched his body and fell to the ground silent.
I hugged the wall and fixed my helmet back in place.
I grabbed my second grenade, pulled the pin, and throw it over the wall made of dirt separating me and the enemy.
I hear someone yell, "Granate!" and the explosion went off.
I pulled my gun to my shoulder and raised the muzzle to present position. I turned the corner and saw two soldiers dressed in gray uniforms lying on the floor and one picking itself up and grabbing his rifle
I brought my sight to the remaining soldier and pulled the trigger. The gun kicked back and there was a sound of thunder, then it was over. The soldier laid there motionless.
I pulled my gun down with a wide face. It wasn't long before more soldiers from my group came rushing into the site.
One put something inside the barrel of the AA gun.
"Let's get out of here!" He yelled before running for the trench line leading to cover.
I followed, along with a few other soldiers that came with him.
The AA gun blew up a few seconds after we all made it to cover.
I hear another loud, bang! Someone blew up another AA gun.
Then another, and another.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Each gun blew up, one after the other. There was one left, and the crew was attempting to flee. I saw Sam and a few others line up where the last AA gun was.
They open fired at the retreating enemy, knocking every one to the ground.
