Title: My first turned the last of hers

The loud beat of a heart, the whirling sound of leaves in the air, the tiny chirp of birds as well as his heavy breathing filled my ears.

He is right in front of me, nervously smiling-even though he knew I will just laugh at his emotional face. My heart skipped a beat. What is this? I didn't predict this! I got teary-eyed as soon as he slid the knot ring in my finger, his promise ring.

"We are still minors, we still have long years to take our time. We are still 15 and 16 years old teenagers who fell in love. This is my reminder to wait for you. To wait for the proper moment to someday claim...

...

you're finally mine, Lia." He said and kissed Lia as soon as the Pastor declared he may kiss his bride.

The crowd gave them a round of applause while he kissed her. Meanwhile, I softly caress the knot ring-the pendant of my necklace as I felt a pang of pain inside my chest.

It's been 12 years. I wait. And wait. And wait.. until he finally found her. He is my childhood friend, puppy love, my best friend, my first lover. Perhaps, this ring is my reminder that I may be his former but will never be his latter.
