I told Gen about it in the next period we had together, which was third period English with Mr. Enery. She said it was probably just first-day-back-jitters, but said I should get a hall pass and go get a drink of water, maybe head up to the vending machine in the cafeteria to get a quick snack. We still had two more hours until lunch, so if it was hunger, that was my last chance to try and help myself feel better before then.
I decided to wait. Mr. Enery was giving an important lecture, or so he said, about the the deeper meaning in stories, and I didn't want to be the oblivious person who asked for a pass during said lecture.
It felt like it lasted forever, but once he finally stopped talking, we were allowed to roam around freely and talk for the last ten minutes of class. Today was just taking notes, and introducing the topic.
I, however, did not "roam freely", and instead lied my head down on my desk, and rested my eyes until the bell rang. Adding on to the hunger, I was also tired, with a slight headache. I could've sworn I was so pumped-up earlier that day. Maybe it was something I ate, or drank.
Next was fourth period. Science. I had that class with Lorelai, Gwen, and a few other people I knew, like Rowena and Kimberly. Rowena was the school flirt, who would surprise no one if she came to school one day, pregnant. Then, her best friend, Kimberly, the well-known cheer captain. Or, at least, that's how they were like before the pandemic. I wasn't so sure anymore.
At least until Thursday, that week. But I'll get to that later.
