Maplepaw was sleeping. This meant that Mapleshadow could finally explore. "Bristlefrost." "Yeah?" Said the grey she-cat. "Come on! Let's go see if we can find my sister and Wisteriapaw!"
Maplepaw shot awake. What was that dream? She walked out of the apprentice's den and saw Featherpaw, one of the older apprentice's, sneaking out of camp. She followed and came to a clearing in the forest.
Featherpaw was mysterious. She had never spoken to Maplepaw, never even looked at her. Maplepaw watched her prowl the edge of the clearing. Featherpaw paused, and the let out an ear-piercing shriek that sent Maplepaw reeling back, stepping on a twig in the process.
Featherpaw whirled around. "Who's there?" Her voice was eerily high pitched and her eyes... her eyes. They were the lightest light blue she had ever seen. They were so light they looked almost white.
Maplepaw stepped out of the foliage. Featherpaw growled. "Why, hello Maplepaw." "You know who I am?" She asked. Featherpaw nodded. "How could I not know a fellow disgraced." Maplepaw tilted her head.
"What do you mean?" Featherpaw laughed. "You're lower in your clan's eyes. Just like me. Your mom died giving birth to you and your aunt had kits with a loner. Also, you and Bristlepaw found your siblings by following a voice's instructions. Froststar thinks you a freak." She growled. "Just like me."
"How are you a freak?" Maplepaw asked. "I mean, your eyes are creepy, and your voice is a little high pitched, but what else." Featherpaw rolled her eyes. "My eyes and voice are a curse. Ever wonder why my father ignores me? Or why I don't have a mother? I'm half clan. Half Windclan. And my mother bore a curse in her blood. It's called Thornslash's curse."
