(Jeez I'm nervous.)

I watched his eyes open from behind the lenses, he blinked and squinted, his eyebrows srunching hard as he tried to make sense of shapes and colors.

'Well.. can you see?' And she waited nervously.

'I don't know. Can I?' He wasn't sure exactly what 'seeing' was supposed to be like.

She waved her hand before him and he unknowingly followed its direction.

'It worked!' She gasped but he had already leaned in closer, inspecting her very closely but also because his vision was still stabilizing and fending off the blurring. Nothing was clear yet, just flurries of color and light.

And then he could see her face a little more with his vision becoming clearer. His eyes trailed up from her neck, her soft cheek and settled at her eyes perfectly framed by her lashes. He hadn't seen anyone but her before, not even himself. He didn't know how to understand what he was seeing, a human?

'It's okay you can touch me.' She gave him permission to explore as he looked curious to do it.

He picked up the batch of hair that fell over her shoulder and observed the strands. Then he looked down at her nicely done nails. And he touched her cheeks with both hands and covered them with his palms. He saw her through the tint of his prescription glasses.

She was entertained by the innocent look on him and giggled, he smiled too before pulling her into a hug. An arm over her shoulder and across her back and she did the same. His head stayed over her shoulder and his eyelashes started to drip with tears. As his eyes dripped he recognized the darkness of it but now the darkness was only temporary. She hugged him tighter until he decided to let go and she saw his face forming into a sob, one that would curl your lips and shut your eyes tightly. He raised his glasses out of the way and rubbed his face with his arm wiping the tears.

'I can see.' He hiccuped.

'I can see.'

Normally she would cry along with him but instead she smiled and waited for him to calm down.

'You can. I have something for you to see before you leave the room. She walked away and returned with a circular and flat item, its front held against her chest.

'When you are ready.' She said.

When he felt better he took a deep breath, wiped his eyes one more time and nodded his head.

She flipped the mirror around to face back at him and he saw something staring back within its frame.

It was his turn to inspect his own appearance and he took the mirror eagerly himself, turning it at several angles and turning his head too. It was kind of cute to watch.

'Wow.'

'Yeah. That's how you look.'

'I don't know what to think. But I think I like it??'

'Your perception of everything is brand new, wait a few days, you'll figure it out.'

'Oh we almost forgot to do your eye drops... um.. this will probably be a lot different than normal now that you can see but try not to move even if it looks scary.'
