Josie woke up at 7 a.m., as always. Wincing, she got up from the couch. She really should have gotten that convertible sofa. But then again this one is more pretty. The things people do for aesthetics.

Hope wasn't awake yet.
She went to make breakfast , then thought better of it. She should wait for Hope. Hope slept on the bed, brown hair a tangled mess , she looked gorgeous even then. It looked like she was holding onto the side pillow for dear life. Josie frowned, maybe Hope was having a bad dream. Who cares? Josie doesn't, obviously.

She didn't mind having Hope here, it's more than nice to see her best fri— to see Hope again. But Josie would be lying if she said she wasn't hurt by what Hope had done.
After all those years of saying "best friends forever" and shit, when Hope left without even saying goodbye, Josie thought maybe she didn't deserve a proper goodbye anyway. Maybe she wasn't a good friend.
She promised herself that this time she wouldn't let Hope Mikaelson ruin the life she had meticulously built for three years. Hope would leave in a few days and Josie would fall back into her routine.

She decided to get some work done while waiting for Hope to wake up.
Landon had sent her the details of their new assignment. Finals are going to start in a few months. Home stretch. After that she could fully start working.
Where? She didn't know. She has a part time job at a local bookstore. She loves that job….Maybe she will work there full time.

Hope woke up at 9.
Josie was ravenous at this point. So as soon as she saw Hope, she asked "breakfast?"
"Sure, I'll freshen up." A reply came.

Josie sets a bowl of porridge and coffee on the table. She was about to head out with hers when Hope asked where she's going. "I'm gonna eat outside on the rooftop."
"Oh, okay"

After a while Hope went outside. It was beautiful up here. You could see the mountains from here. One side of the rooftop was filled with plants.

In the corner surrounded by plants, hidden from view was Josie, seated at a small table. Doing something on her laptop. All calm and focused.
She looked like belongs here, with dark brown hair falling on the side to cover her features. Hope had the urge to tuck the hair away, to see the beautiful outline of Josie's face again.

Brown eyes turned to meet her gaze . Hope scrambled for words as she realized she was staring. "Am I interrupting?"

"Not any more than you already have." Josie shrugged, returning to whatever she was doing on the laptop. "Sit if you want to." Hope could practically see her guards going up. Hope tried not to feel too wounded by that. She failed.

"Thanks for letting me stay…..and also for picking up the call." Hope said, sitting across the table. Josie didn't say anything so she went on, "I'm sorry." At that Josie looked up, raising an eyebrow .
"For everything. For not calling after I left , not picking up your calls. I'm so sorry. I know I was terrible and selfish."

Josie looked amused. "I thought we were going to ignore this topic."

"I know I should have addressed this last night." Hope winced, this could be her only chance to fix things between them. She has to try, she'll probably hate herself for the rest of her life if she doesn't.

"Will you give me another chance?Maybe we can be friends again?"

"If you want me to give you a chance, give me an answer." Josie sat back. There it is. Hope took a deep breath,"I— I'm sorry Josie, I can't. Not yet."

Josie was looking straight ahead. Hope was getting anxious by the second. Why would she want to give Hope another chance when Hope couldn't even give her an answer.
"It's okay I understand if— " Josie cuts her off and says,"Ok…. We can try."

"Really? Thank you." Hope got up from the chair and headed back, leaving Josie to her work.

She couldn't keep herself from grinning.
This is a start. They can try again. And this time Hope Mikaelson will keep her feelings nicely tucked away.

Hi! As always feel free to point out if you see any spelling or grammar mistakes but please be kind:)
And also you can listen to Afterglow by Taylor swift for this chapter. That's what listened to while I was writing this one. This song really has that second chance vibes I was going for with this chapter.
