Woah, is this a new story I see? Welcome all to my attempt at a MDZS/SV crossover!

I probably won't post the second chapter for a while, because I only have like 4 other (long) chapters pre-written and don't want to push myself into a corner LOL. I just wanted to get the first chapter out there and get your opinions I guess? I've also been into sherlock and poirot lately so my other books have suffered because of this rip

"Wei Wuxian!"

"Ahaha, Wen Qing!" Wei Wuxian laughed the laugh he always would when nervous, which was definitely not helping with the situation. "What are you doing awake so early?"

"So early?" Wen Qing put her hands on her hips as she scolded, "It's the middle of the day, Wei Wuxian! And what did I tell you about burying A-Yuan in the dirt?"

Wei Wuxian scrunched his eyebrows, "A-Yuan?" He stepped away, as if acknowledging the fact that the child hadn't been hidden in the first place. "I'm not burying A-Yuan in the dirt! Isn't that right, A-Yuan?"

From within the dirt, Wen Yuan nodded with a large grin. "Yes! Xian-Gege said I would grow into a big and strong radish with all my radish siblings!"

Wen Qing cocked an eyebrow and flashed Wei Wuxian the fake smile that never failed to send shivers down his spine.

Nonetheless, Wei Wuxian grinned and quietly whispered to the child behind him, "Hey, A-Yuan, you forgot your lines. You were supposed to say 'Xian-Gege didn't.' Can you say it again for me?"

"Oh.." Wen Yuan sighed, a little solemn, before hurriedly correcting, "I mean... Xian-Gege didn't say that!"

Wei Wuxian turned to Wen Qing, a smile gracing his features. "Hm?"

Wen Qing rolled her eyes, lightly shoving Wei Wuxian out of the way to pull Wen Yuan out from within the earth. "Tsk, he's all dirty; his robes are sullied, too muddy to use again! Wei Wuxian, you're either going to buy him some new robes or you're doing the laundry today. Actually, on second thought, you're going to do both."

"Okay..." Wei Wuxian watched as Wen Qing walked away with A-Yuan in her arms, his pout smoothing out into a frown. He let out a heavy sigh as he reached the Demon Slaughtering Cave. Talismans littered the place due to his many experiments, surrounding the petite figure of Wen Ning.

Wei Wuxian sat on his favourite rock seat, pulled out Chenqing, and played a tune. It was the first thing that came to mind during his melancholic mood, though he didn't particularly remember where he'd learned it from.

He closed his eyes and thought of white robes, golden eyes, and a ribbon embroidered with blue clouds. And once he peeled them open, however, they drifted to the golden invitation sitting by his side, written in both elegant and beautiful calligraphy.

His nephew was being introduced to the public as a month old babe. And he was invited.

His shijie didn't hate him. Instead, she welcomed him back to her new family with open arms.

"Xianxian is sorry, shijie." He whispered, as if someone were there to listen to his cries. "Xianxian failed you. Xianxian is sorry."

He wanted to go; truly. But of course, there were bound to be assassination attempts. He couldn't risk dying–not when the entire cultivation world was after his head.

Wei Wuxian sat up, and internally scolded himself, This is no time to be feeling sorry for yourself, Wei Wuxian!

He tenderly caressed the letter with his index finger and thumb. He traced the strokes of the characters, as well as the small ink blots in the far corner.
