An authentic yet unpretentious description of Lan Wangji would be that he was somewhat sophisticated in his way of service, yet also managed to work with efficiency. A word he would never associate himself with is foolish–because Lan Wangji wasn't foolish.

Lan Wangji was anything but foolish.

People whom he considered foolish existed in very small numbers; Su She, Jin Zixun, Wen Chao, and Ming Fan are mere examples. (The latter being the most recent addition to his list).

Foolishness is a weakness many are under the impression of, and unfortunately have been led to their dooms due to such. Lan Wangji had long since learned the downs of being impulsive and senseless, and in all certitude–knows that it never ends well.

Lan Wangji wasn't sure whether Shen Qingqiu was trying something, or if he really did lose his memories after a Qi deviation—after all, how else would Lan Wangji have sensed his lingering presence in the forest?

Unlike the other juniors in the area, he wasn't.. unobservant enough to not notice the presence nearby. Incorporated with the fact that Ming Fan and his group suddenly collapsed with no grounds, it meant that Shen Qingqiu had protected him against the onslaught from the sidelines.

Now, all Lan Wangji wanted to know was why.

His first assumption had been plain, simple, and in truth the most obvious one of all: Perhaps Shen Qingqiu simply didn't support Ming Fan bullying disciples within his peak, and decided to deal with them himself.

Incorrect. From what the system's description of the Peak Lord entailed, Shen Qingqiu was a spiteful man who would turn a blind eye to violence between his disciples, and even encouraged it at times. Besides, what benefit was there of doing it in the shadows? It would've been much more efficient to expose himself and deal with them personally.

So, Lan Wangji's second assumption soon followed: Shen Qingqiu had a goal in mind.

Though as to what goal, Lan Wangji was rendered unaware.

"A-Luo, why did we come here? You said we were going to the festival!" Ning YingYing voiced, breaking him out of his trance with an abruptness that made him unconsciously startle.

"...." Silently, Lan Wangji took a tentative step backwards, and was rendered aghast as he stood before Luo Binghe's presumed abode—a woodshed.

"A-Luo, why are you so quiet?" Lan Wangji was seriously going to go crazy with the number of times "A-Luo" was being said. Does this girl not have more important things to do? Things like attending classes?

He briskly made his way to the door (if you could even call it that), and, clinging onto the tiny fragment of hope that the interior was any better, opened it—not before immediately closing it right after.

"Eh? A-Luo, what's wrong?"

Lan Wangji inhaled a deep breath of courage before opening the door once again—indeed, it wasn't even worthy of being called a home. The floor was devoid of all life; the grass appeared to have long since died, and was now replaced with great heaps of mud; the lump of straw on the floor was ostensibly shaped into a makeshift bed, and—Lan Wangji closed the door once again.
