004, trick or treat

Jessie grabbed her tote bag, which was emptied for once to carry candy.

Max ran down the driveway, her smile never faltering as Jessie chased behind her, the two starting their journey to trick or treat the night away.

They started in the street over from theirs, though not much candy could be scavenged from one of the cheaper neighborhoods. It was far past the time the boys were meant to be meeting, but Jessie was determined to keep her promise to Lucas and Dustin.

As Max and Jessie walked down the sidewalk, other groups of children scuttling in the night around them, Jessie suddenly grabbed Max's arm. The redhead halted her rant about the lack of good streets to skate, concernedly turning to the shorter-haired girl.

"What? What is it?" She grabbed Jessie's shoulder gently, not noticing how she smirked at the group of unsuspecting Ghostbusters approaching their position.

"Target spotted, engaging scare mode," Jessie spoke in a low, robotic voice, before ducking and crawling behind a large tree. Max rolled her eyes at the childish behavior, but still ducked down and followed.

She pulled her Mike Myers mask over her pale face, the two blindly listening for the boys' chatter to approach."Oh, God," the usual whiney voice of Mike Wheeler could be heard. "Give me a break."

"Seriously," Dustin retorted, "I can just eat a whole bowl of nougat. Straight up." From beside Jessie, Max leaped out, growling and waving her fake machete toward the boys, who all jumped in fright.

"Shit," Jessie slipped out, realizing she'd gotten distracted. She jumped out beside Max, awkwardly smiling at the startled boys. "I'm here too!" she chuckled under her breath, Max's masked head turning to her before the redhead sent her a playful punch to the arm.

"Ouch! Sorry, I got distracted." Max laughed, peeling off her mask with a smile."Holy shit! You should have seen the look on your faces. And you?" she looked toward Lucas, "Who screams like that? You sounded like a little girl." The redhead turned, sharing a smirk with her sister before the two turned, beginning to trail away.
