This chapter along with the next are choppy because I wrote them a year ago, and only revised them before publication so I'm sorry you have to withstand it but hopefully you enjoy it nonetheless.<3 Any and all criticism is welcome, just don't fill the comments with unnecessary and/or problematic remarks please! Love you all, MWAH🫶🫶
This is written in third person protagonist omniscient
Present time.
Meaning that it is told in third person, the narrator is all knowing, so during the story you may occasionally see the thoughts of other characters, (which all will be italicized) but the focus will mainly remain on Celaena, since she is the main character, but remember, just because YOU know this information, doesn't mean the other characters around them do. This is written as things happen, in present time.
Keep in mind that I am from the U.S (unfortunately), so the lingo may be off, but I'll try my best at a as as
ENJOY!!

As Celeana walks out of her house, she looks back at the clean white building, the slight breeze of the cold outside meets her face. She takes one last glance at the neighborhood at which never exactly felt like home to her and realizes, "I don't ever have to come back again. " She mumbles softly to herself.

A little dramatic considering I may have to come back for the holidays.. and summer break.. but I'm having a moment, give me a bloody break.

Celaena practically jumps into the cab beside her as she finishes putting her luggage into the car.

You know those dramatic moments in movies when the protagonist leaves home for their education, spouse, or whatever the heck their dramatic little hearts desire? Yea? Well this is the complete opposite of that, though it's what it seems.... OK maybe it's sort of like that. It's completely like that. Although not for a boy or girl, but for my education.

A while back, Celaena's parents were forced from her, or maybe the other way around? No one knows for certain, and she still to this day has yet to be informed why. As far as blood family goes, that's all anyone knows. Because of this, Celaena was orphaned at the age of 2 and was put into the foster care system where she was soon adopted by the Lockwood family. Although many other children were forced in there for a much longer time, and Celaena was lucky to get out as quickly as she had, the events that occurred during her stay there will forever alter her view on the world around her.
The Lockwood family consists of Karl Lockwood the mayor of the town, Cora Lockwood, his dutiful housewife, Dean Lockwood the delinquent football player and a typical teenage arse, and Celaena. Everyone in town knows the only reason she was adopted by the Lockwoods was so that Karl would get re-elected for Mayor, because let's be honest, people tend to love a good charity case story.
The Lockwoods aren't all so bad. They're rich, which meant she could spend all the money she wanted on clothes, books, and other nerdy things she found of interest. She gets along well with Mrs. Lockwood, or rather "mom". Celaena was forced to call Karl and Cora mom and dad so that the public believed they were all a truly, very happy family. Ugh, disgusting. Dean Lockwood is also among the long list of things Celaena would describe as, disgusting.

I hate him, he's a stuck up playboy who gets whatever he wants with just a blink of an eye. Oh how I'd love to step on his foot with my boot and watch as he-

"Celaena darling, hurry or we'll miss your train!"

Recent thoughts are pushed out of her mind by the oh so familiar voice of mother dearest.

"I'M ALREADY IN THE CAR YOU'RE THE ONE WHO NEEDS TO HURRY. "

Though many have their opinions, suggesting against the casual way of speaking they had developed over the years, saying it was rude to talk to your mother in such a way, Cora is more of a friend to her than a mom, so they speak to each other rather "inappropriately".

"I'm glad we did some shopping before we send you off to school! Blimey, I don't know what I would've done if I'd had found out you arrived at this, new fancy abroad school with your current attire." Cora says as she enters the car and they begin to drive away. As much as Celaena loves her, she can't help but be annoyed by this comment. Although, she completely agrees with her, how hypocritical of her.

She needs to lay off. Ever since I was little I've never been the type to spend hours in the bathroom getting ready. Not because I think it's wrong, I actually quite enjoy it, but I never feel the need to considering I rarely leave the house because of my homeschooling. Maybe I can start regularly doing it? It'll be good to do something just for me.

"Y'know what, me too. The pajamas I usually wear all day are starting to get quite boring aren't they? "

She wasn't lying, it was getting boring, but she didn't exactly plan on just dropping her current "style". Usually, as briefly explained earlier, she often would just throw on a baggy t-shirt with a pair of sweats, and occasionally jeans if she was feeling extra fancy. Today, considering it was her first day at her new school, Celaena decided to dress up, having spent 2 hours getting ready with Cora nagging about every little thing she did, extending the time to about double what it should have been. She knows it's a lot of time, but she wanted to make a good first impression, especially since she'll be in school robes most of the year anyway. She did her makeup, nothing too crazy, very casual, did her wild hair in her normal curling routine, and was wearing tan cargo pants, with doc martens, a white, slightly cropped shirt, and a black leather jacket. She personally, loves it. Celaena and Cora spent a couple of months in the states, and it was there where she built some of her inspiration off of some of the amazingly put together outfits they observed there.
After about 40 minutes of driving in a cab with her mom non stop talking about how she's going to miss her while she's away, and how much fun they'll have on holidays and whatnot, (in which Celaena may have fallen asleep once or twice during her rambles), they finally arrive at the train station.

"Hogwarts express train on platform 9 3/4? There's a platform 9 3/4 here? Mom? MOOOM?"

Celaena turns her head to see Mrs. Lockwood talking extremely flirtatiously to a scary looking bloke twice her age! Seriously, you're married? Ok so maybe she can't blame her, Mr. Lockwood is never home and he's kind of an arse.
Typically, Celaena is a sweet person, but like all, she has her turning point, and no it's not "that time of the month", she just gets like that sometimes, especially in stressful situations. Karl often says it is probably due to her "troubled childhood" and her "no good blood." What does that even mean?

"Mom we have to go or I'm going to be late! The train leaves in 10 minutes and I don't even know where I'm going so could you please stop flirting with a man who is decaying by the minute!" She shouts all in one breath.

Celaena drags her by the arm and just as they get far enough away from the older man she just screamed at, who was now walking in the opposite direction, Cora pulls her arm from her tight grasp.

"Excuse me but what in Merlin's name is wrong with you?"

"I'm sorry mom, I'm just really nervous, the kids that go to this school are crazy brilliant and I still have no clue where I'm going AND THIS DAMN TRUNK IS SO HEAVY"

"OK OK, look Celaena, you're going to be fine, blimey you're one of the most brilliant young women I know! Now come on, let's go before you miss your train."
