He knew that falling in love had been the worst mistake of his life. But he still wanted to continue with that one-sided feeling.

When he received the news of what he had, he had mixed feelings. No worries, but confusion. It was an honest love, but at the same time, what he had was forcing him to take the first step if he wanted to have her by his side. He wanted to go at a slow pace, but he knew that if he didn't declare his love quickly, he would be the one to pay the consequences of his delay.

At first he thought it would be something that would heal on its own, he had decided it was best not to tell Charlie anything. But he quickly realized his mistake. Colorful tears were coming out from his eyes, which had a crystalline sound as they came out and were very noticeable. His eyes became blurry every so often, which made his job as host at the hotel very difficult. Even hiding them was a total problem for him.

And it didn't stop there. As time went on, the disease began to progress little by little. His eyes began to burn as if he had been in hellish flames; and the tears wreaked havoc with his eyes, to the point that he became colorblind.

The worst part? He didn't feel like crying. They were special tears that came out against his will, and that spoiled the permanent smile he always wanted to show.

The last phase of the disease was missing, and it was there where he decided to take the first step.

He invited the princess to the hotel balcony after the work of the day was finished. The best time for him was on evening hours so that there would be no interruptions. He had arranged everything for that moment, some flowers on the table, some jambalaya for both of them. It was almost like a date.

They talked like every day. They mentioned their achievements, their positive points. Two years had passed, and they had formed a strong relationship. Not one of hatred and contempt. It was one of honesty and sincere affection. They were both happy together, but Alastor said they could be even happier.

And that was where he decided to use his final card.

He told her in an eloquent way how he felt about her. Between rhymes and certain song lyrics, he expressed the beauty of her person, as well as how happy he was to see her by his side every day. She was a respectful, optimistic and sweet woman. Characteristics that charmed his heart. At that moment, Alastor was excelling at being honest with Charlie; with his feelings and his reaction. In the end, he finished mentioning his little speech, asking her to be his other half.

From the way Charlie was reacting, it seemed like she ended up being charmed by his words. He thought she felt the same way too. He was already thinking ahead about the future he wanted for both of them as a royal couple.

However, not everyone have a happy ending. Not even demons.

Her reaction wasn't one of annoyance or disappointment. She actually admired all the words Alastor had said to her in those minutes. It showed sincerity, and Charlie felt grateful that she was someone praised by one of the strongest demons of hell. She felt that Alastor's words were coming from his heart, there was no lie at all, and she was impressed that he felt feelings of love for her.

However, she had already made up her mind long ago. Vaggie was for her. She couldn't accept another one in her heart.

Alastor sat in silence. Although on the outside he still wore the smile that so identified him; inside him, something had broken. Charlie could sense that. In the end, she didn't want to hurt the demon that had helped her so much in forming her project.

She talked to him, appreciated every word of his, and mentioned that if it weren't for him, she wouldn't have made any progress in her project. So even if his mind said otherwise, Charlie was grateful to him. For being her partner and for being her friend. And she wanted him to stay by her side, without damaging what they had formed. Alastor had no choice, but at least he knew the princess wouldn't be furious with him. The two embraced, remaining as permanent friends at the hotel.
