Chapter 2: Removal
Cold. That was the only way to describe the kitchen as I stepped into it. The everlasting smell of wood was filling the room and mixed with the smell of whatever was being cooked by my mother. My mother. The person who gave birth to me. Who once smiled at me with joy. Who once made it an everyday routine to shower me with hugs and kisses. Who once made sure to tell me how much she loved me every day. Now I was lucky if she even spared me a glance. My eyes turned to face the clock hanging above the window to my left. It was barely five a.m. meaning I had more than enough time before I had to be at school. I glanced at my mother from the corner of my eye before walking over to the bowl of fruit on the kitchen table. I stared at the red apple I held in my hand. I looked it over before walking over to the window and looking out into the barely lit morning sky. Before I could turn around my head was slammed into the window making the glass shake violently.
“I’m just giving you a better view of the rising sun.”
I wonder what I did to my sister for her to hate me so much. More than anybody else she made sure to always get in her daily abuse when it came to me. I winced as I felt my face pressed farther into the cold glass.
“Alaia, your father will be down here any minute. He hates when you touch that boy.” My mother's voice was cold and hard as she turned to face Alaia. I looked into my mother's green eyes to see only disgust as she stared at me. She pulled back a strand of long brown hair behind her ear before turning back to the food she was cooking,
“Make sure to wash your hands, you don't need to have any remains from him on you.”
I turned my eyes back to the beautiful sky outside and took in the scene before I was harshly yanked backwards. A light gasp escaped my lips as my back made contact with the hard wood floor. I quickly pulled myself up before turning and looking to my sister's angered face that stared down at me with the purpose of burning my soul until there were only ashes left. A smirk lit up her face before I felt something wet land on my cheek. An airy laugh left her lips before she turned to walk out of the room. I hear her steps slow before she turned to me with a smug look on her face.”You should feel honored that my spit decided to try and help cleanse your filth.” It was her parting words as she disappeared around the corner. I heard heavy footsteps making me quickly collect myself and rush towards the back door. I made sure to grab my school bag before slipping on my shoes and speeding out the door just as I heard my father's rough voice greet my mother. I ran as fast as I could, the quickly drying spit on my cheek disgusting me, as I made it to my place.
My place. A small clearing near the woods forming a perfect circle lined with big thick trees. Soft grass was everywhere with various types of flowers sprouting up in small patches throughout it. Small animals and insects roamed the area sometimes either ignoring me or sitting with me and enjoying the wonderful scenery. I slowly walked through the woods sitting my bag down by a tree before walking a little farther into the woods. I made sure to be quiet as I came upon a small creek. Making sure not to frighten any animal that might be around I made my way over to the water. I made sure to gather as much water as possible into my hands as I began to wash off my cheek. I frowned lightly before washing my cheek once more emitting a sigh as I stared back into the water. Big white eyes stared back at me with a dull sadness. They had given up on hope with only one emotion left for them to feel and that was and would forever be sadness. I was so caught up in those pools of white that I almost didn't hear the very soft crunch of dead leaves being stepped on. My eyes shifted to the path I had just come from as a little boy suddenly appeared.
His slanted blues eyes stared at me as one of his pale hands raked through dark blue hair. I let out a sigh of relief before opening my arms to the boy. He quickly ran to me wrapping his arms around me as I did the same to him. I smiled softly as I noticed the soft twitch of his ears on my cheek and the steady swish of his fluffy tail. I pulled away slowly with him following my example. Blue met white as I softly ruffled his hair with him pouting slightly. I stood up with him following me closely as I began my walk back to the clearing. “So, what are you doing here Sky?” I was highly surprised that he was here since I hadn't seen him in the past two months. His hair was slightly longer reaching just below his shoulders when it used to reach just past his chin. Other than that though he looked exactly the same.
