Chapter 6
“All your belongings will arrive in around 2 days, so we will provide you with clothes when you get there. Here’s your plane ticket, you are to report to gate 27, the planes leaves in 0200 hours”
“0200?”
“2 hours”
The young cadet did his vow and marched out of sight. I carried one suitcase and a backpack as a carry-on, the typical traveler look. The ticket full of red and blues displayed its first class sign with bold letters.
Suddenly my eyes started to twitch, but this time it hurt. An excruciating pain that hammered against my brain. I grasped my head and kneed on the floor. From all the pain I opened my eyes and in the distance a man stood wearing a red suit, clearly distinguished from the crowed. The pain momentarily became even worse, and my eyelids pushed against each other. Moments later the pain was gone, but my heart raced. The man no longer stood there.
“You alright boy??” asked a man, probably a tourist. He wore a Hawaiian shirt with khaki pants.
I stood up and faced him. “Am sorry… I tripped…” the man interrupted my sentence and said…
“Whoa! Nice contacts!”
“Where you get those?” continued the tourist, the amazement at my eyes wasen't normal
“I don’t…” something inside me twitched and I quickly pulled out my phone. The dark screen served as a mirror and for the first time in life I was scared of something bigger than myself.
I ran to the nearest bathroom leaving the tourist standing behind. I went into the bathroom and leaned against the mirror.
“My eyes…” the iris and pupil to be more exact had elongated vertically. The pupil in itself now covered a biggest surface area of the cornea and the iris was even more elongated and the color was more…brilliant.
I stood there looking at my eyes physically return to their normal state. I stood looking at myself, trying to rationalize everything that had just happened, but nothing came up. I instinctively looked up and the watch read 1:34, half an hour went by.
I walked up to the gate that read “27” there a line of people getting their papers checked curved several times. As 10 minutes passed by, I was forced to see families giving their goodbyes to those who were leaving. But more importantly this made me realize that I was alone in this world. Everybody knew who I was, but nobody cared.
I checked in through metal detectors and immigration agents and finally I was set to board the plane, a trip that would decide my future, a trip that hopefully brings change.
