Sabo shut down on his haki hard and cursed to himself. Luffy wasn't waking. Why wasn't she waking? The footsteps were getting closer. He could hear his heartbeat thrumming through his ears. He quickly checked Luffy's plus. Shit, it was weak, and she is burning to the touch—a fever. Luffy wasn't sleeping. She was unconscious.

Untie the boat; then he will grab Lu. He needed to before the footsteps got here. Isn't ACE supposed to be taking care of this? He could feel his haki going in the opposite direction of the footsteps and signatures that he was now feeling. Fuck he knew caves were confusing for haki signatures. The walls bouning and distorting them; it was why the protocol was to find caves.

He ran over to the boat, whipped out his knife, and started cutting the ropes until there was only one tied to the rock. Just as he was about to turn around and grab Luffy, he heard a loud gasp. HE whipped around and came face to face as two people he automatically recognized. The 12th and 16th commanders of the whitebeard pirates. Just his Luck.

. . .

As soon as two of the three haki signatures turned off, Izo knew it was time to stop being stealthy. So he and Haruta start sprinting to where that one signature that hadn't completely shut was. Sure, an average division member wouldn't feel that haki but for a commander. Esspicaly, a sharpshooter like him. Well, he could feel that signature a mile away. That, however, didn't stop it from being incredibly annoying to pinpoint. The cave wall distorts where the signature was coming from. Annoying, but he could deal. He just needed a moment.

Give him a ship, and he can do it, a forest, an open plan, a town, even a city. He would be able to feel these without breaking a sweat. But a cave, well, that is a different story. He knew at any minute that signature could shut down too. The marine probably just needed longer. Most likely less skilled at observation haki than their companions. There he had it. He whipped around, ignoring the squeak of protest from Haruta. He booked it to the signature.

There was light ahead, moonlight. He slides to a stop, Haruta banging into his backside; with the moonlight he sees, a little girl. An unconscious little girl. The second thing he noticed was the small CHILD SIZED marine coat she was in and the bigger one that was wrapped around her. Rage simmered in his gut at the sight of a marine coat that size. The third thing he noticed was the white and silver tail attached to the little girl. The fourth thing he saw was a pair of ears. Wolf ears, in the same colour of the tail, peaking out of her fluffy brown wavy hair. A sharp gasp brought his attention off the child. Haruta gasp...

Haruta must be furious even more than him. She had her reasons for that he knew. Even if he did not know specifics, he knew she didn't have a good home life. That she ran away for years, even before she met the whitebeard pirates. He doesn't know exactly what happened, but he knew there was a reason why her eyes tracked every possible exit. Why she hated having even a bit of her skin uncovered. Why she never would wear anything tight-fitting. Why, for even as easygoing she was, she hated causal touches when she didn't expect them.

If anything, Haruta was protective of it was children. He had seen her rage, sparred with her to help with the madness, after every mission, every instance, where she had to see them get hurt. He had seen her brutally murder those types of people before. So he knew she would be mad. More than angry, fury clawing at her gut, scratching the way to her throat. At the sight of a child soldier. A very unconscious one at that.

He looked up from the child and locked eyes with the slightly terrified marine. Good. He thought a little bit viciously. "Izo." That is all the warning he gets before Haruta and the blond marine jump into a clash. He is surprised and a little bit nervous when he sees the blonde marine keeping up with Haruta's overwhelming speed—meeting clash with the clash with his bow staff of his. He really didn't have time to worry about that right now, though. He knew exactly what he had to do.

Well, the blonde marine was fighting with Haruta. He quickly walked over to the flat rock where the little girl lay. Her pulse is the first thing he checks. But, not the first thing he notices. Her hand was burning. He quickly felt her forehead, and it was confirmed that she had a fever. A high fever. He took a closer look at her face a noticed how clammy and pale it was. There was cold sweat dotting her brow.

This... this was not new. He realized, slightly horrified. This would have to be at minimum a week without treatment. An infection, this was an infection. He recognized the signs straight away. He was always catching his idiot brother and sometimes even his more hardheaded sisters hiding a wound and catching an infection. He always caught them within a few days though. He quickly put his hand to her neck. The pulse was weak. She needed a doctor, like yesterday. "Haruta" He yells. She gets the idea when the fight picks up even more. He is very pleased to see the blonde marine falling behind.

Fucking marines, letting one of their own gets into this state and, to top it all off, a child. Now the dilemma is what the wound? He would search for it later. If they can't make it to the ship in time and he would have to use the little medical knowledge he had to try to save this girl. He really hoped that's not the case. He gently gathered the girl into his arms. Marine or not this was a child first. A fucking marine child. He will kill the person who thought that was a good idea. A child all the same.

He heard a slight whine and whimper coming from the girl. Hell, he really needed something to call her that wasn't child or girl. Her ears were pressed flat against her head and her tail gently curled around his arm. Her whole, too small, too light, body was leaning against his chest. Her head in the crook of his neck. He gently shushed her. He didn't know if she could hear him, but he whispered anyway, "Everything is going to be alright. It is going to be okay. keep your eyes closed for me, rest, I won't let anything hurt you. I know it hurts, but you got to be strong a little while longer." She settled down at that. He counted it as a win.

The next thing he knew, the blonde marine was down. A large gash bled from his stomach. Unconscious on the floor. Lights from the corner of his eye caught his attention. He whipped his head around to the embers of blue and orange flame. Fuck Macro. He completely forgot about him. He couldn't even feel Marco's haki when he wanted to keep it hidden. So he just slipped his mind. Guilt wells up in him at that. Footsteps are coming, and because of the cave, he can't tell if it is another marine or Marco, so he shouts instead. "Haruta Haki"

They both clamp down hard on it. It is a tense few minutes of silence before he sees Marco enter with a marine slung over his shoulder. His eyes widened in surprise as he looked at me. Oh, he is just seeing the girl for the first time. This girl was running out of time fast, though. So he snapped, "Marco ship."

Marco nodded and grabbed the downed blonde marine.

They were running out of there as fast as they could possibly go.
