fading Slowly

I woke up to the loud ear-piercing sound. I jumped out of the bed and made my way to the window. It was dark, and one of the street lamp was broken. The air surrounding me became eerily cold, sending shivers down my spine. I waited a little, but to my surprise no one seemed to be bothered about the sound. I decided to step outside and see the matter myself.

The street was awfully quiet, well, except the deafening ringing sound. I glanced at the houses nearby, which were quiet as dawn. I went inside one of the house, definitely my worst idea but I could at least ask for some help. Empty. There was absolutely no one.

Ting!

My eyes snapped open at the sound. Ah it was a dream. I grinned as I helped myself out of bed. I spared an unintentional glance at the clock, my eyes widened as the number 10:39  glowed in red. Shit shit shit. I mentally cursed myself.

"Mum! Mum!" I ran downstairs, "Why didn't you wake me up?! I had a—" a horrible thought sparked in me when I got no response.

"Mum? Are you there?" I slowed my pace, suddenly aware of how fast my heart was beating.

Panic started taking over me as I realised what was happening. I had no idea what was happening actually... I hobbled outside, getting greeted by the hot, bright sun. I instinctively used my palm as an umbrella over my forehead. I wondered if my dream came true... My mum was missing, including all the other people in the neighbourhood.

"What the fuck is happening?!" I said in a panicky tone and dashed, despite having no idea where to go, what to do.

Around strolling the whole day, I came to except the fact that humanity had vanished into thin air, leaving me alone. The sun had drowned and the city was plunged into darkness. I stood outside a massive building. Every single window reflected darkness showing no one is inside. I sighed through my nose and turned to leave.

Click!

I looked back at the building. My eyes couldn't believe what they just saw. Someone turned on the lights of a room in the 6th floor. A tiny drop of hope formed inside me. I took the elevator and stood outside that particular room. I didn't think twice before ringing the bell 5 times. I waited and waited. But nobody opened it. Great. Fucking great. Maybe it just turned on by itself? I'll wait one more minute. I watched as my last piece of hope crumbled right before my eyes. I got up to leave and then...

Click clack~

The door opened. I saw a man of my age with a bigger frame narrow his eyes, as if scrutinising me. Then he yelled inside, "There is one more!"

"Come inside, quick!" he shoved me in.

A girl with cat eyes was sitting on the couch flicking the lighter in her hand, occasionally making a clink sound. A tall, yet not so-tall skinny boy, was sitting on the ground along with a teenage girl. Their attention shifted to me and it made me a little awkward.

"Don't be shy, we're in this together." he shoved me once more.

"what happened?! Where did all the people go?? And w- what is that?"  I gestured a shaking finger at the weird moving shadow in the balcony.

"That,"  the girl in the couch said, her voice sounding annoyed, "that is a dumb bitch."

"Rin! Don't be like that." the guy beside me protested, to which she rolled her eyes.

"Humanity has vanished without a trace and she's making out with her boyfriend. Tch."  rin threw a distasteful look at the shadow.

"Okay so 4 ladies, 3 guys." the guy counted, "Totally 7 people."
