It was somewhere in the middle of the night and for the life of me, I couldn't sleep. My mind was racing with thoughts of my first time in an actual school, around people my own age. Something that I hadn't experienced in my 16 years on this planet. I tossed and turned aimlessly before having enough of my sleep struggles.
So I got up and ventured into the kitchen to make some hot cocoa in hopes it would ease my thoughts. I filled the kettle and turned it on and while looking through the cupboards, it began heating up. It didn't take me long to locate the chocolatey goodness as I poured the contents of the packet into the mug. It was a mug I'd gotten on my last trip to Egypt and I loved it dearly since mom picked it out.
"Can't sleep either?" A voice asked as I was pouring the now hot water into the mug. I wasn't too started by the voice since I heard their footsteps a few seconds ago as well as the elevator open. Looking up I saw Chase standing on the other side of the island in these comfy grey pajamas that had Mr. Davenport's emblem on the left side.
"Yeah my nerves are pretty shot. It's just that I've spent my entire life avoiding people in fear of losing control over my powers. The only time I'd be around people is when my parents were with me since they knew how to help me gain control," I explained placing the kettle back and grabbing the milk from beside me. Carefully pouring some into the hot chocolate before placing it back in the fridge.
"I know how you feel. My siblings and I spent our whole lives in the lab. We never even seen the rest of the house until Leo moved in and Tasha convinced Mr. Davenport to let us live like normal teens. Although we were eager to leave," he says as we walked over to the couch and sat down.
"You were happy to see the world where as I'm happy to get away from it. Only now I have to rejoin it, doing the highly mundane things kids our age do. It'll be hard," I tell him, taking a drink from my mug.
"Often times changes in life could be considered a good thing. We're all going to make sure you're comfortable and if you start getting worked up then I'll take you somewhere more quiet," he replies which eased my mind. Knowing that I'd have people to watch out for me definitely felt nice. It pained me to always have to rely on my parents back then. But I knew they meant well.
"That's very thoughtful of you Chase. But enough about the near future, you said you grew up in the lab. Where do you sleep? I didn't see any beds down there," I asked hoping it wasn't too much of an annoying question.
He chuckled at my excitement "In those big capsules. They help control our bionics when we sleep," he explained. I felt my muscles tense at his answer.
"So you sleep standing up," I state my muscles moving slightly "Ah my joints are tensing just at the thought of it," he laughed as I cringed at the thought.
"We've gotten use to it but for someone who lays down to sleep it would be tough on the joints," he says nudging my arm. I had finished my cocoa by now and was starting to feel sleepy. So we both said goodnight and went back to sleep. Hopefully school goes well.

I woke up a few hours later and was surprised that I didn't feel tired. Usually when I don't get enough sleep I feel like a walking pile of lead, but today was fine. After showering I changed out of my PJs into black leggings that had pockets, which was great. A white tank top with a pink flannel over it paired with my pink high tops. Once ready I made my way downstairs, and Tasha was making breakfast.
"Hey honey did you sleep ok?" She asks as I plopped down on a stool in front of the island.
"Well I couldn't really sleep so I came out here, made some cocoa and talked to Chase for awhile since he couldn't sleep either. Which I don't blame him since they have to sleep standing up. I had back pain from him just telling me that. But after the cocoa kicked in I managed to fall asleep," I explained as she placed a plate of French toast before me along with a bottle of syrup.
"It'll be hard getting use to a new home but I'm here if you need anything. I know I wasn't around much due to you guys always travelling but I'm here now," she states with a smile. The gesture was reassuring. I happily ate my breakfast when the others came into the room.
"Omg she really is like a girl version of Chase," Bree exclaimed flopping down in defeat and I didn't really know what she meant until I looked over at Chase. He was also wearing a flannel but over a white T shirt with black skinny jeans and white high tops.
"Just because they have the same style doesn't mean they are the same person," Adam says as he began stuffing his face "I mean come on Kay is way cooler than Chase,"
"You met her yesterday," Leo deadpanned taking the plate from his mother.
"Yeah and she can control elements as well as look like different people," Adam scoffed trying to make his point "Chase is just short and bossy," Bree laughed at her brothers logic.
When we all finished eating Mr. Davenport drove us to school in his new solar powered car which was very cool. Donald even let me ride shotgun while the others were crammed in the back. It didn't take us long to get there since the car was incredibly fast and as we pulled up in front of the doors and got out, that's when my nerves kicked in.
"Hey you'll be alright Kay, I'm sure you'll have classes with us all. Your eyes are turning purple just take a breath," Leo says placing a comforting hand on my shoulder as Bree looped her arm with mine, the action made me feel less nervous. I gave him a nod and we entered the school, where no one seemed to pay us any mind.
"Here Mr. Davenport got ahold of your schedule and got your locker combination yesterday when he picked us up," Chase says handing them to me as they all looked over my classes.
"Ok so you have all your classes with Chase and PE with us all so you'll never be alone," Bree states with a smile " And your locker is next to mine," we all went to collect our things before heading off to our first classes.
Hopefully nothing bad happens...
