At the VDW Penthouse, 5:38PM

Lily was reading a book in her bedroom. Yesterday she spent the rest of the day reading and also met some of her friends. Suddenly, she got a call from Serena. 

„Hey Serena, is everything alright, school must be over already, why aren't you home yet?"

„Of course it is mom. I just wanted to inform you that I'm at Dan's right now, we went to the loft right after school. If you wonder, we're studying."

„Oh um, if so, could you say hello to his father from me? I'd really appreciate that!"

„Uhh—sure, I guess. But mom, Eric told me about the situation you guys had at the Thanksgiving celebration." Serena started giggling. „Mom do you may want to tell me something? Something about youu and-"

„No, Serena" Lily interrupted her, „I just want to make sure he's fine. You know, he's one of my oldest friends." Lily had to laugh at herself for using the same words as Rufus did earlier. 

„Uhh okey? Look, I want you to be happy too so.. anyway, I need to go continue, there's a maths exam tomorrow, see you later!"

„Bye!" Lily said and Serena hung up. That was weird, Serena thought. 

After that call, Lily realized that there was a gala tonight to which she could look forward to. She completely forgot about that.. oh my god— it's an art gala, she thought. „That means... oh yes, that means that he's gonna be there too Lily" Lily said to herself and admired herself at the mirror. The lyrics of „Maneater" were playing through her head. She knew exactly what she had to do now. 

She walked through her huge closet and picked out the newest dress she got. It was made out of satin, black and it shimmered a lot. 

She put it on and questioned if it may was a little too much.. But she knew that all of the UES icons were going to wear something at the same level today. 

All of the sudden she felt excited but also powerful, she knew how good she looked at that moment. She put on silver high heels and chose a silvery purse that matched with the shoes. She went downstairs, put on a coat and took the elevator. Her limousine already waited for her, she had told Vanya about the event earlier so he had hired it already. 

„Have a nice evening, Ms Lily!" Vanya was as polite and content as he always was. Lily really liked that about him.„Thanks Vanya, you too!"

As the limousine arrived at the location where the event took place, the driver opened the door for Lily. 

Actually, yes, she was kinda overdressed. But she didn't care, atleast she got the attention that honestly was well deserved. Everyone was looking at her, she looked extremely stunning. It could have been awkward for her but it wasn't, because she felt confident. Confident cause she saw that one specific pair of eyes on herself. 

It was Rufus's, he was in the crowd and just stared at her walking down the stairs for quite a long time.

He fell in love with the way she looked right now. As the focus on her slightly faded away, she walked over to him. 

"Heyy Rufus" she said as she hugged him lightly.

"Uhh hey!" Rufus couldn't decide on what to focus, whether the fact that she hugged him or how good she looked.

"What's wrong?" Lily looked at him, did she do something wrong?

"Oh uhm nothing, I- I just, ugh you look incredible Lil.."

Lily blushed as she heard those words coming out of Rufus' mouth. Of course, she had excepted such a kind of reaction, but it still felt weird getting compliments from him. "Thanks Rufus, you too" Lily gave him a small smile. "You look really good in that suit!"

After he thanked her for it, the two started dancing as another of their favorite songs was playing. They danced a lot and drank a lot. Lily had always had a thing for drinks at parties, so she drank more than Rufus. Maybe Lily even drank a little too much. Realizing that it was getting to be too much, Rufus decided to quickly take Lily home.

"Lil, we'll better bring you home."

"Rufus, you don't have to do this-" Lily grinned at him.

"Yes, I have too, you're very drunk right now.. I'll just bring you to the penthouse, okey?"

"Ugh, let me have a little fun.. I don't want to wait any longer, I don't want to wait for Dan and Serena to break up anymore.." While Lily said that, Rufus already had put her in a cab and started driving to her apartment. 

As they arrived, he brought her to the elevator. He figured out that she couldn't even make it to her bedroom by herself. 

"Damn it.." He said to himself and stepped in the elevator. When they reached her storey, he took her coat off of her, picked her up and carried her to her room. There, he laid her down on her bed and put a bottle of water and a bucket next to it. 

"Rufus don't leave, I need you.." Lily begged but Rufus knew that she wasn't able to think clear anymore. "Goodnight Lil." He said, as he left the building. 

He would have loved to stay but it wouldn't have been the right thing to do, especially at their current state. He took enough care of her already and also, she's a grown woman, she can take care of herself too. 

All he ever wanted was for her to be fine, to feel save and to feel loved. As much as he wanted their time to be already, he knew that they needed time now. 

One day, they were going to be.
