I sprang onto my bed and took out my phone, already one week into the new school year and I'm already exhausted. I opened instagram and realised that I had a few follow requests, I haven't been active in a bit and forgot to check. I looked through them, there was six in total, haddleyjenson1210 was one of them, and and samanthaaa_robertsss_ was another. I didn't know who Haddley Jenson was since her profile picture was of a cat but Samantha Robertson seemed familiar from school. I ended up accepting all six of them and even followed all of them back.
My older sister walked in, she was in high school, her name is Delilah, she had the same brown hair as me and hazel eyes.
"Mom said dinner is ready." she said at my door.
"Alright." I said. "I'm coming." She walked away before I could even answer, with the door wide open. I usually give her crap for doing that but I guess I'm leaving my room anyways.
When I got upstairs I saw my mother bustling around the kitchen in her work clothes and one oven mitt, my dad was sitting at the table reading newspaper, one of the buttons on his shirt looked like it was about to pop off, my sister was sitting at the table beside him looking depressed (she always looks like that when she is with us.)
"There you are James, dinner is ready." My mother said.
" 'Kay." I said sitting down opposite of my sister. My mom placed a steaming plate of spaghetti in front of me, something we have quite often. then she placed a loaf of sliced garlic bread onto the table an sat down. "So James, how has school been so far this past week?" She said.
"Not bad." I said taking a bite of my bread. Really school is just school. Nothing to special, especially since I can't go into basketball until February. And soccer won't start till April.
"That's...good." She said. "What about you Dally?" That's what my whole family call Delilah. To me it doesn't even sound like her real name, but I still call her that anyways.
"Alright." Delilah said, she was playing with her food. "Can I go to the mall tomorrow with my friends?"
"Delilah. You just went back-to-school shopping. I even let you bring Amy with you. Why do you need to go again?" My mom said.
"Please mom, we just want to look. And grab some food."
"Well then your only going if you bring James with you."
"What?!" My sister and I said together. "But I don't want to go with her and her friends. I was planning on playing video games." I pleaded.
"You plan on playing video games every day James, you can take one friend if you want, you need to get out and do something. And Delilah. Your taking him with you whether you like it or not. Am I clear?"
It was a long moment until my sister mumbled 'fine' and I nodded my head in agreement. For the rest of dinner nobody talked. When we were finally finished, I excused myself to my bedroom. I was about to play video games when my phone buzzed, it was a notification from Instagram.
Haddley Jenson wants to message you!
