To children, it was known as Storybook City. Older patients knew it as the Silver Gardens Medical Center. But everybody else just called it what it was: the hospital of horrors.
It shut down decades ago, nobody was sure why. Kids always dared each other to open the doors, but they never did. The ones that got the farthest up the old cobblestone path ran off in tears, screaming about sounds from inside and a greyed out figure in the broken window.
Once upon a time it was a place of love and mercy, now all it holds is secrets and fear. A last resort for the lost ones, a not-so-empty shell of a building, and a popular place for cold case fans to investigate.
Several cases of missing children and teenagers spanning the past few decades traced back to Silver Gardens, but every lead hit a wall. Every once in a while, someone would whisper a name like Palmer or Gray, but the townspeople would hush them before they could say another word. They didn't dare put their own children at risk by speaking of the mysteries around that cursed place. If word spread too quickly, it could encourage the young ones to go for a look and never return.
